Birger Gerhardsson notes his opinion that “ Luke is very much dependent upon Palestinian tradition .” Adolf Schlatter concluded that the text's character together with other indicators point to the author's provenance from the Jewish church.

Christiern Pedersen finally found a copy in the collection of Archbishop Birger Gunnersen of Lund, modern Sweden, which he gladly lent him.

It was the Swedish regent, Birger Jarl, who established Swedish rule in Finland through the Second Swedish Crusade, most often dated to 1249, which was aimed at Tavastians who had stopped being Christian again.

This rule was introduced by the Regent Birger Jarl, and it was regarded as an improvement in its era, since daughters were previously usually left without.

As part of a dual strategy to avoid war via deterrence and appeasement of Germany, British leaders warned that they would go to war if Germany attacked Poland while at the same time tried to avoid war by holding unofficial talks with such would be peace-makers like the British newspaper proprietor Lord Kemsley, the Swedish businessman Axel Wenner-Gren and another Swedish businessmen Birger Dahlerus who attempted to work out the basis for a peaceful return of Danzig.

It landed on present day Riddarholmen where today the Tower of Birger Jarl stands, a building, as a consequence, still often erroneously mentioned as the oldest building in Stockholm.

The name Stockholm first appears in historical records in letters written by Birger jarl and king Valdemar dated 1252.

While the absence of a perpendicular city plan in medieval Stockholm seem do indicate a spontaneous growth, it is known German merchants invited by Birger jarl played an important role in the foundation of the city.

A contra-rotating steam turbine, usually known as the Ljungström turbine, was originally invented by Swedish Engineer Fredrik Ljungström ( 1875 – 1964 ) in Stockholm, and in partnership with his brother Birger Ljungström he obtained a patent in 1894.

( c. 1200 – 21 October 1266 ), or Birger Magnusson, was a Swedish statesman, Jarl of Sweden and a member of the House of Bjelbo, who played a pivotal role in the consolidation of Sweden.

In 1252, a year after another victory over the folkungs at the Battle of Herrevadsbro ( Slaget vid Herrevadsbro ), Birger wrote two carefully dated letters, the first mention of Stockholm interpreted as the foundation of the city or at least some sort of special interest in the location.

The work of Birger Nerman ( 1925 ), which argues that Sweden held a senior rank among the existing European states at the time, is a nationalist reaction to the academic historiography that is critical of the older sources of history.

While Stockholm is likely to have expanded quickly, it remains much debated if the expansion was planned in accordance to the model of southern prototypes ( e. g. such as Lübeck ) and, as historical sources traditionally have rendered it, governed directly by Birger Jarl ( 1210 – 1266 ) and Magnus Ladulås ( 1240 – 1290 ), or, as some historian have argued, a somewhat desultory if not entirely unmethodical process.

Ingrid Ylva Sunesdotter of Bjelbo ( born c. 1180s, died c. 1250 – 1255 ), was a Swedish noblewoman, the wife of Magnus Minnesköld of Bjälbo and the mother of regent Birger Jarl.

The second marriage in 1200 with Ingegerd Birgersdotter of Bjelbo, daughter of the Folkunge Jarl Birger Brosa produced a son and heir, Jon ( 1201 – 1222 ), who was chosen king of Sweden 1216 as John I of Sweden.

The antagonists in long run were finally the House of Sverker in Östergötland and the House of Eric in Västergötland and Uppland ( Saint Eric was killed and buried in the latter province, others in the dynasty were buried in Varnhem Abbey in the former province as later also Birger Jarl was, a relative to the dynasty ), which alternated on the throne for several generations, until in the 1220s the Eric dynasty got the upper hand, and the Sverker dynasty became extinct ( at least in the male line ).

On the death of the archbishop Birger Gregersson ( 11 March 1383 ), the King appointed Jöns to take his place, despite protests from the cathedral chapter.

The male dynasty of Eric X was also now extinct, and issue of his other daughters had been sidestepped by Birger Jarl, the husband of his daughter ( the only who yet in 1250 lived ), Ingeborg Eriksdotter of Sweden.

He is mentioned in two contemporary diplomas ( DS 70, 116 ), as the brother of Birger Brosa, as well as by King Magnus Birgersson, who in a letter in 1280 called him grandfader.
