This victory Pius V attributed to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and instituted the feast of Our Lady of Victory.

He is regarded by many Catholics to be the first Pope whose body was discovered to be incorrupt, followed by Pope St. Pius X ( 1903 – 14 ) and Blessed Pope John XXIII ( 1958 – 63 ).

The Blessed Amadeus IX ( 1 February 1435, Thonon-les-Bains – 30 March 1472 ), nicknamed the Happy, was the Duke of Savoy from 1465 to 1472.

The first of his works on Francis was Vita Beati Francisci (" The Life of Blessed Francis ", often called the " First Life "), a work on the saint's early life, commissioned by Pope Gregory IX in 1228 at the time Francis's canonization.

On 3 October 1874 Pope Pius IX proclaimed him Venerable ; on 8 January 1905, Pope Pius X declared him Blessed and proposed him as a model to the parochial clergy ; in 1925 Pope Pius XI canonized him, and assigned 8 August as his feast day.

Blessed Luis Sotelo ( September 6, 1574 – 1624 ) was a Franciscan friar who died as a martyr in Japan, in 1624, and was beatified by Pope Pius IX in 1867.
