** Beaulieu Abbey, Bolton Abbey, Colchester Abbey, Newstead Abbey, St Albans Abbey, St Mary's Abbey, York and Hartland Abbey ( the last ) fall prey to the Dissolution of the Monasteries in England.

* Bolton Abbey is founded in North Yorkshire, England.

In 1811 he inherited the title and eight major estates ; Chatsworth and Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire, Devonshire House, Burlington House and Chiswick House in London, Bolton Abbey and Londesborough Hall in Yorkshire, and Lismore Castle in Ireland.

The water flows into a pond created by Paxton called ' The Strid ', which is named after a stretch of the River Wharfe on the Devonshires ' Bolton Abbey estate, where the river is compressed into a turbulent chasm just a yard wide.

The Chatsworth estate, together with around Bolton Abbey in Yorkshire ( mostly moorland ) and some land in Eastbourne, belongs to The Trustees of Chatsworth Settlement, a family trust established in 1946.

It also runs the Devonshire Arms Hotel and the Devonshire Fell Hotel & Bistro on the Bolton Abbey estate and owns the Cavendish Hotel at Baslow on the edge of Chatsworth Park, which is let to a tenant.

The family seats are Chatsworth House, Bolton Abbey in Yorkshire, and Lismore Castle in Co Waterford, in the Republic of Ireland.

She also supervised the development of the Cavendish Hotel at Baslow near Chatsworth and the Devonshire Arms Hotel at Bolton Abbey.

The castle ( along with other Boyle properties-Chiswick House, Burlington House, Bolton Abbey and Londesborough Hall ) was acquired by the Cavendish family in 1753 when the daughter and heiress of the 4th Earl of Cork, Lady Charlotte Boyle ( 1731-1754 ) married William Cavendish, 4th Duke of Devonshire, a future Prime Minister of Great Britain & Ireland.

The 12th Duke, who succeeded to the title in 2004, continues to live primarily on the family's Bolton Abbey estate.

Charlotte died in December 1754 and Lady Burlington died in September 1758, so the villa and gardens passed to the Cavendish family, as did numerous other Boyle residences including Bolton Abbey, Londesborough Hall in the East Riding of Yorkshire, and Lismore Castle in Ireland.

The Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway ( E & BASR ) is a heritage railway in North Yorkshire, England, ( formed in 1968 and re-opened in 1979 ).

The E & BASR currently runs for a total distance of from Embsay via Draughton Sidings, Holywell and Stoneacre Loop to Bolton Abbey station.

Bolton Abbey village is named after a nearby ruined 12th century priory, belonging to the Dukes of Devonshire.

As of 2012, the E & BASR currently plans to extend their services into Skipton ( further up the line, a further 2 miles in length-to whom the railway could interchange with services on the Airedale Line ), as well as to reconstruct platform 2 at Bolton Abbey station itself, " as part of a possible extension down to Addingham ".

Bolton Abbey is the estate within which is located the ruined 12th-century Augustinian Bolton Priory in North Yorkshire, England.

The team initially played games against other departments and rail companies, but on 20 November 1880, they competed in their first recorded match ; wearing the colours of the railway company – green and gold – they were defeated 6 – 0 by Bolton Wanderers ' reserve team.

Salford Crescent railway station is adjacent to the campus, and high frequency bus services operate to Manchester, Salford and Bolton and Liverpool.

Following this, railways opened, linking the town from Bury Bolton Street railway station to Manchester, Radcliffe, Rawtenstall and Accrington and from the old Knowsley Street railway station to the neighbouring mill towns of Bolton, Heywood and Rochdale.

The railway to Bolton on Dearne station crosses, after which the river is flanked by the disused Bolton Common tip on the south bank.

In due course the total length of railway was 42. 75 miles, consequent on the opening of a loop line ( 1866 ), known as the Bolton loop, through Mealsgate and Baggrow ( to serve collieries in the area, but with a passenger service known locally as the ' Baggra bus '), and a branch ( 1867 ) from Bullgill to Brigham to take haematite traffic.

Born in Bolton, Lancashire, the son of a Welsh railway guard, Glyn Owen left school aged 14 and worked in a telegraph office.

The ' real-life ' station based in Chorley operated for short periods of time each year and was located on Bolton Road and Steeley Lane in the town.

The Bolton and Leigh Railway was the oldest in Lancashire, opening to goods traffic in 1828 and Great Moor Street station opened to passengers in 1831.

Another branch of the Canadian Pacific Railway was built through Craighurst in the early 20th century, opening from Bolton to Craighurst in November 1906, when a station was opened.

Tower FM is a British Independent Local Radio station which broadcasts across the towns of Bolton and Bury and parts of north Manchester from its studios in Orrell, in the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan.

The radio station was given the name " Tower " as a local link to both towns in the station's coverage area ; Turton Tower in Bolton and Peel Tower on Holcombe Hill at Ramsbottom near Bury.

The radio station only broadcast from Bolton once the main base was established on Gaskell Street, Bolton.
