Bombardier Inc. () is a Canadian multinational aerospace and transportation company, founded by Joseph-Armand Bombardier as L ' Auto-Neige Bombardier Limitée in 1942, at Valcourt in the Eastern Townships, Quebec.

Bombardier is a Fortune Global 500 conglomerate company.

The Bombardier beetle's powerful repellent spray inspired a Swedish company to develop a " micro mist " spray technology, which is claimed to have a low carbon impact ( compared to aerosol sprays ).

He is also chairman of various international advisory boards and councils for many international companies, including Power Corp. ( Montreal ), Bombardier ( Montreal ), the China International Trust and Investment Corp. ( Beijing ), J. P. Morgan Chase and Co. ( New York ), Violy, Byorum and Partners ( New York ), VS & A Communications Partners ( New York ), Independent Newspapers ( Dublin ) and General Enterprise Management Services Limited ( British Virgin Islands ).

Important locations of the civil aerospace industry worldwide include Seattle, Dayton, Ohio and St. Louis in the USA ( Boeing ), Montreal in Canada ( Bombardier ), Toulouse in France and Hamburg in Germany ( both Airbus / EADS ), the North-West of England and Bristol in the UK ( BAE Systems, Airbus and AgustaWestland ), as well as São José dos Campos in Brazil where Embraer is based.

Bombardier Aerospace is a division of Bombardier Inc. and is the third-largest airplane manufacturer in the world after Boeing and Airbus.

Learjet is also a subsidiary of Bombardier based in Wichita, KS.

Bombardier had been in discussions with Mirabel, Quebec ( near Montreal ) and Kansas City, Missouri for a $ 375 million assembly plant, for its future Cseries aircraft, which Bombardier is marketing as a replacement for aging DC-9, MD-80, and early, smaller versions of the Boeing 737.

Canada's contribution is the LRC ( Light, Rapid, Comfortable ) train, built by Bombardier.

Although the borough is heavily residential, it is home to one of America's oldest traditional amusement parks, Kennywood Park ; the fourth largest shopping mall in the region, Century III ; advanced naval nuclear propulsion technology research and development facility, Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory ; monorail manufacturer Bombardier ; US Steel's Irvin Plant ; Community College of Allegheny County's South Campus ; the Allegheny County Airport ; and various other businesses and industries.

The most heavily used route, the Tram T1, is a so-called ' tramway on tyres ', which is actually a guided busway based on Bombardier Transportation's Guided Light Transit ( GLT ) technology and using articulated trolleybuses.

The TTC's fleet of Mark I vehicles is aging and demand has exceeded the capacity of the TTC's Mark I fleet, but these vehicles are no longer produced by Bombardier, leaving the TTC with the prospect of either retrofitting the line for Mark II vehicles ( used successfully along with Mark I vehicles in Vancouver ) or streetcars ; or paying Bombardier to restart the production of Mark I vehicles.

Headquartered in São José dos Campos, Embraer is the third-largest commercial aircraft manufacturer in the world, and the fourth-largest aircraft manufacturer after Canada's Bombardier when business jets are taken into account, and it is Brazil's top exporter of industrial products.

In 1970 Bombardier acquired the Viennese company Lohner-Rotax, a manufacturer of snowmobile engines and tramways, and became involved with rail business.

In 2001 Bombardier acquired Adtranz ( DaimlerChrysler Rail Systems ), a manufacturer of trains which were widely used throughout Germany and Great Britain.

In the end, only three qualified bidders remained: ABB ( Swedish manufacturer of the X 2000 train ), Siemens ( manufacturer of the German ICE ), and a consortium of Bombardier ( manufacturer of the LRC trains ) and Alstom ( manufacturer of the French TGV ).

The snowmobile market is now divided up between the four large North American makers ( Bombardier Recreational Products ( BRP ), Arctic Cat, Yamaha, and Polaris ) and some specialized makers like the Quebec-based AD Boivin ( manufacturer of the Snow Hawk ) and the European Alpina Snowmobiles.

It includes aerospace companies such as airplane manufacturer Bombardier, jet engine companies Pratt & Whitney and Rolls-Royce Canada, flight simulator builder CAE, and defence contractor Lockheed Martin and L-3 Communications.

With the acquisition of Adtranz from DaimlerChrysler, Bombardier Transportation emerged as one of the largest manufacturers of railway rolling stock in the world.

On 12 May 2010, Swiss Federal Railways announced its largest order of rolling stock ; buying 59 double-deck EMUs from Bombardier, plus an option for another 100 trainsets.

All rolling stock for both GO Transit and West Coast Express are bilevel designs produced by Bombardier Transportation.

This rolling stock is scheduled to be replaced in AMT service by tri-level cars being produced by Bombardier Transportation.

Other designs, including rolling stock made by Colorado Railcar, Budd, Pullman-Standard, Bombardier and others have an entrance on the lower deck rather than an intermediate level.

The contract for rebuilding the rolling stock was awarded to Alstom, at a cost of $ 194. 2 million, beating Bombardier's bid by $ 35 million, though Bombardier claimed the contract was incorrectly awarded.

In a 1985 corporate reorganization, Bombardier removed itself from manufacturing locomotives and concentrated on producing passenger train rolling stock, as well as aircraft ( following the 1986 acquisition of the federal government Crown corporation Canadair ), in addition to its recreational products.

The railway business was transferred to Bombardier, which continues to manufacture rolling stock in Berlin.

Four manufacturers have provided rolling stock for the Mexico City Metro, namely the French Alsthom, Canadian Bombardier, Spanish CAF and Mexican Concarril ( now Bombardier Transportation Mexico, in some train types with the help of Alsthom and / or Bombardier ).
