The film features a bevy of well-known supporting actors and actresses, among them Claude Rains, Edward Arnold, Guy Kibbee, Thomas Mitchell and Beulah Bondi.

The Steady State theory was proposed in 1948 by Fred Hoyle, Thomas Gold, Hermann Bondi and others as an alternative to the Big Bang theory that modified the homogeneity assumption of the cosmological principle to reflect a homogeneity in time as well as in space.

After graduating with a pass degree in June 1942, Gold worked briefly as an agricultural laborer and lumberjack in northern England before joining Bondi and Fred Hoyle on naval research into radar ground clutter near Dunsfold, Surrey.

Immediately after the war, Hoyle and Bondi returned to Cambridge, while Gold stayed with naval research until 1947.

Gold began discussing problems in physics with Hoyle and Bondi again, centering on the issues over redshift and Hubble's law.

Two papers were published in 1948 discussing the " Steady State theory " as an alternative to the Big Bang: one by Gold and Bondi, the other by Hoyle.

In their seminal paper, Gold and Bondi asserted that although the universe is expanding, it nevertheless does not change its look over time ; it has no beginning and no end.

Gold and Bondi also stated that the issues with time scale that had plagued other cosmological theories – such as the discrepancy between the age of the universe as calculated by Hubble and dating of radioactive decay in terrestrial rocks – were absent for the Steady State theory.

" Bondi conceded that the theory had been disproved, but Hoyle and Gold remain unconvinced for a number of years.

In 1985, Gold won the prestigious Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society, an award whose recipients include Fred Hoyle, Hermann Bondi, Martin Ryle, Edwin Hubble, James Van Allen, Fritz Zwicky, Hannes Alfvén and Albert Einstein.

In the journal Nature, Hermann Bondi wrote " Tommy Gold will long be remembered as a singular scientist who stepped into any field where he thought an option was being overlooked.

After confirmation of the Hubble's law by observation, the two most popular cosmological theories became the Steady State theory of Hoyle, Gold and Bondi, and the big bang theory of Ralph Alpher, George Gamow, and Robert Dicke with a small number of supporters of a smattering of alternatives.

Bondi and Gold had been released by the end of 1941, and worked with Fred Hoyle on radar at the Admiralty Signals Establishment.

In 1948, Bondi, Hoyle and Gold formulated the steady-state theory, which holds that the universe is constantly expanding but matter is constantly created to form new stars and galaxies to maintain a constant average density.

Bondi Beach has been used as a location for several Australian and international movies, various television series, music videos, and a video game:

* Bondi blue is a blue-green colour, first named when used as the exterior colour of the original iMac personal computer introduced in 1998 and said to be named after the colour of the water at Bondi Beach.

This involved the earlier route used towards Bondi Junction through Woolloomooloo, then an extension towards Kingsford with five extra stations at Charing Cross, Frenchmans Road, Randwick, University and Kingsford.

Once the line was opened beyond Bondi Junction the crossover would cease to be used.

In two 1957 papers, Bondi and ( separately ) Joseph Weber and John Archibald Wheeler used this bead argument to present detailed refutations of Rosen's argument.

Hermann Bondi named the principle after Copernicus in the mid-20th century, although the principle itself dates back to the 16th-17th century paradigm shift away from the Ptolemaic system, which placed Earth at the center of the Universe.

For new galaxies to be created, Professor Bondi declares, it would only be necessary for a single hydrogen atom to be created in an area the size of your living room once every few million years.

On 2 January 1907 young Charles Kingsford Smith was rescued from certain drowning at Sydney's famous Bondi Beach by bathers who, just seven weeks later, were responsible for founding the world's first official surf life saving group at Bondi Beach on 21 February 1907, at a meeting held at the Royal Hotel Bondi Beach.

In April 2004, Myer re-opened its Bondi Junction, New South Wales, store which replaced a former Grace Bros. store closed in April 2002 to make way for the redevelopment of Westfield Bondi Junction.

The Bondi Junction Bypass ( later renamed Syd Einfeld Drive after the notable local man and one-time Member for Phillip ), unlike the railway, was constructed quickly, opening in January 1979.

Their song " In the Summertime " was selected as the theme song for the Australian TV reality show Bondi Rescue and has been the theme song for seven consecutive seasons.
