Brian Charles Lara, TC, OCC, AM ( born 2 May 1969, in Santa Cruz, Trinidad and Tobago ) is a former West Indian international cricket player.

Brian Lara is popularly nicknamed as " The Prince of Port of Spain " or simply " The Prince ".

On 14 September 2012 Brian Lara was inducted to the ICC's Hall of Fame at the awards ceremony held in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

After expressing his interest to play in the 2011 fourth edition of the Indian Premier League ( IPL ), and despite not having have played active cricket for four years, Brian Lara still managed to attract the highest reserve price of $ 400, 000 ahead of the IPL players ' auction in early January 2011 ; however, no franchise bought him.

In the 1996 World Cup, he scored 78 and 45 * against New Zealand and Pakistan respectively as South Africa won their group but in the Quarter final with West Indies a Brian Lara century ended their ten game winning streak.

An album of the songs sung in Monty Python's Life of Brian has been released on the Disky label.

Julian Doyle, the film's editor, has written a book The Life of Brian / Jesus, which not only describes the filmmaking and editing process but argues that Monty Python's film is the most accurate Biblical film ever made.
