Croc later returns, attacking the docks to try and lure Robin out, but is defeated by Dick Grayson ( now acting as Batman after Bruce defeated Valley before taking time off for self-analysis ) without realising that he is facing a new Batman.

In Dark Knight Returns, Dick Grayson is noticeably absent, which Bruce Wayne explains by saying that they are not on speaking terms.

* 1949: Family Matters — Clark Kent is married to Lois Lane, and Bruce Wayne's ward Dick Grayson is leaving for college.

Bruce is on the verge of retirement and Dick Grayson is set to take over as Batman ; meanwhile Bruce Wayne Jr. (" BJ ") trains to become the new Robin.

The Joker kills Grayson in an elaborate trap, but Bruce Wayne Jr. ( the new Robin ) switches uniforms with the fallen crimefighter so that the Batman legacy can continue.

The epilogue of the tale features Dick Grayson as Batman and Bruce Jr. as Robin.

Dick Grayson took on the mantle of Batman, and Batman came back to the present in the " Return of Bruce Wayne " storyline, published about a year and a half after " Final Crisis ".

While there, she observes the tension between Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon, as well as the scarring on Tim Drake, allowing her to discover the double lives they and Bruce have been leading.

When she gets home, she realizes that was not Bruce Wayne, and knowing that Dick Grayson is now in the role of Batman leads her to ask the question " Where is Bruce Wayne ?".

In turn, Bruce initially treats Terry the same way he treated Dick Grayson and Tim Drake.

In the Red Robin series, Stephanie and Dick Grayson ( who is now the new Batman following Bruce Wayne's apparent death ) become concerned about Tim after Dick transfers the mantle of Robin from Tim to Damian Wayne.

However, the Bat-Signal was occasionally used ( for instance, in the episode " The Sandman Cometh " when Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson are away on a camping trip ), whenever Batman needed to be summoned from the field.

During the events of Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne # 3, the immediate region around the Command-D Bunker is depicted as so toxic as to require Batman and Robin-at that point Dick Grayson and Damian Wayne-to wear hazmat suits to investigate the possibility of Darkseid's exiling of Bruce Wayne into ancient history.
