The nearby village was founded during the construction of the castle and bore its name until it was renamed to Buda in the wake of the Hussite Wars.

Some medieval chronicles and literary works derive the name of the city of Buda from him. There is an ancient legend, amongst the Székely people that says: " After the death of Attila, in the bloody Battle of Krimhilda, 3000 Hun warriors managed to escape, to settle in a place called " Csigle mezo " ( today Transylvania ) and they changed their name from Huns to Szekler ( Szekely ).

The name Buda takes its name from the name of Bleda the Hun ruler, whose name is also Buda in Hungarian.

By the time Du Pre was forced to find a new name for itself, the Carrington hotel was already being referenced as “ the Buda House .” In the “ Dupre Notes ” weekly column of the Sept. 25, 1886 edition of the Hays County Times and Farmer ’ s Journal, the author notes that “ The Buda House is one of the best hotels in the state.

According to the town ’ s oral tradition, the name of Buda is a corruption of the Spanish word “ viuda ,” or “ widow ,” referencing the widows who supposedly worked as cooks at the Carrington Hotel.

Others suggest that, like the town of Buda, Illinois, the name is a nod to the exiles of the failed Hungarian Revolution of 1848 who settled in the area.

The original Mountain City was centered near the modern community of the same name, but stretched from the Blanco River around present-day Kyle all the way to Manchaca Springs northeast of present-day Buda.

Petőfi híd or Petőfi Bridge ( named after Sándor Petőfi, old name is Horthy Miklós Bridge, named after governor Miklós Horthy ) is a bridge in Budapest, connecting Pest and Buda across the Danube.

* János Bottyán ( 1643 – 1709 ) – " Blind Bottyán " – popular name of Bottyán János, who fought against the Ottomans under the Habsburgs, liberating Buda, but who later became a general in the war of independence against the Habsburgs under Francis II Rákóczi, 1705.

In 1686, the capital city Buda was freed from the Ottomans by an allied Christian army composed of Austrian, Hungarian, and Western European troops, each roughly one third of the army.

Buda has attracted national attention for its light-hearted wiener dog races, organized every April by the Buda Lions Club.

Rooster Teeth Productions, the creators of the machinima series Red vs. Blue and The Strangerhood, had its office in Buda until moving back to Austin.

On its original spot, the top of the hill, the narrow winding streets and small houses that were built by the masters who were working on the construction of the Basilica at the beginning of the previous century, have an atmosphere that is similar to that of Tabán in Buda.

The town was a trade and port settlement from the early 12th century due to its position on the way from Pécs and Buda southwards.

In addition to the protection of its setting, the town of Kecskemét had arranged to pay tax directly to the pasha in Buda, thus gaining his protection and enjoying a special situation.

On 26 February Bánffy resigned, to save the country from its " ex-lex ," or unconstitutional situation ; he was decorated by the king and received the freedom of the city of Buda.

After a suppressed uprising in 1848-1849, the Kingdom of Hungary and its diet were dissolved, and Hungary was divided into 5 districts, which were Pest & Buda, Sopron, Pozsony, Kassa and Nagyvárad, directly controlled from Vienna while Croatia, Slavonia, and the Serbian Voivodship and Tamiš Banat were separated from the Kingdom of Hungary between 1849-1860.
