Zaharija soon resumed his Byzantine alliance, also uniting several Slavic tribes along the common border to revolt against the Bulgars, several Bulgarian generals were beheaded, their heads sent to Constantinople by Zaharija as a symbol of alleigance.

Bulgarian economy closely resembled that of the Soviet Union.

In the coming years, the residence of the Bulgarian patriarchs remained closely connected to the developments in the war between the next Bulgarian monarchist dynasty, the Comitopuli, and the Byzantine Empire.

From that time until the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the end of Communist rule in 1989, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and the Bulgarian Communist Party coexisted in a closely symbiotic partnership, in which each supported the other.

The Bulgarian Ortodox Church that refused the role of closely partnership with the Bulgarian Communist Party is held by Stefan II, the Primate of all Bulgaria.

Greek Fir ( Abies cephalonica ) is a fir native to the mountains of Greece, primarily in the Peloponnesos and the island of Kefallonia, intergrading with the closely related Bulgarian Fir further north in the Pindus mountains of northern Greece.

The emergence of Bulgarian national sentiments was closely related to the re-establishment of the independent Bulgarian church in 1870.
