Allan Alcorn created Pong as a training exercise assigned to him by Atari co-founder Nolan Bushnell.

Soon after the founding, Bushnell hired Allan Alcorn because of his experience with electrical engineering and computer science ; Bushnell and Dabney also had previously worked with him at Ampex.

To acclimate Alcorn to creating games, Bushnell gave him a project secretly meant to be a warm-up exercise.

Bushnell told Alcorn that he had a contract with General Electric for a product, and asked Alcorn to create a simple game with one moving spot, two paddles, and digits for score keeping.

Though he thought the game lacked quality, seeing it prompted Bushnell to assign the project to Alcorn.

Three months into development, Bushnell told Alcorn he wanted the game to feature realistic sound effects and a roaring crowd.

In September 1972, Bushnell and Alcorn installed the Pong prototype at a local bar, Andy Capp's Tavern.

Bushnell later recruited Al Alcorn and created a sensation with the much easier to grasp Pong arcade game modeled on Ralph Baer's Magnavox Odyssey home system's Tennis game.

Alcorn was the designer of the video arcade game Pong, creating it under the direction of Bushnell and Dabney.

After Alcorn left Atari in 1981, he consulted to many fledging companies in Silicon Valley, especially involved in the startups of Catalyst Technologies, one of the first technology company incubators, created by Nolan Bushnell and other ex-Atari leaders.

The prototype impressed Bushnell and Dabney so much that they felt it could be a profitable product and decided to test its marketability.

Immediately following World War II, William Bushnell Stout built one last prototype Stout Scarab, called the Stout Scarab Experimental.

Bushnell based the idea on an electronic ping-pong game included in the Magnavox Odyssey, which later resulted in a lawsuit against Atari.

In 2011, Bushnell stated that the game was inspired by previous versions of electronic tennis he had played before ; Bushnell played a version on a PDP-1 computer in 1964 while attending college.

Bushnell then went on a business trip to Chicago to demonstrate Pong to executives at Bally and Midway Manufacturing ; he intended to use Pong to fulfill his contract with Bally, rather than the driving game.

Beginning as a farm town, Bushnell grew to encompass a railroad depot, cheese factory, and grain elevator at one point.

Created by Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney, who would both later found Atari, Inc., it is generally accepted that it was the world's first commercially sold coin-operated video game — and indeed, the first commercially sold video game of any kind, predating the Magnavox Odyssey's release by six months, and Atari's Pong by one year.

In 1991, Cornerstone moved near the town of Bushnell, Illinois where the organizers of the Festival purchased a large piece of land, which is now called " Cornerstone Farm ".

In 1777 Bushnell attempted to use a floating mine to blow up the HMS Cerberus in Niantic Bay ; the mine struck a small boat near the Cerberus and detonated, destroying the vessel, but not the intended target.
