Extending into the interior from the coast, the parish of 16. 66 km² is nestled between the Calheta ( in the west ), Câmara de Lobos ( to the east ) and São Vicente has a population of 3214 ( its density is 192 inhabitants per kilometre square ).
It is located along the southern coast ( approximately center ), and is west of Câmara de Lobos and the regional capital Funchal.
Until 1835, the parish was part of the municipality of Funchal, but was transferred to Câmara de Lobos between 1835 and 1914.
