Ginger ale is a carbonated soft drink flavoured with ginger in either the Golden-style, closer to the ginger beer original, credited to the American Thomas Cantrell ; or the ( Pale ) Dry-style created by Canadian John McLaughlin, which is a paler drink with a much milder ginger-flavour to it.

Staley made his final public appearance on October 31, 1998, when he attended a Jerry Cantrell solo show.

On July 19, 1999, syndicated radio program Rockline was hosting Cantrell, Inez, and ( via telephone ) Kinney for a discussion on the release of Nothing Safe: Best of the Box, when, unexpectedly, Staley called in to participate in the discussion.

An informal memorial was held for Staley on the night of April 20 at the Seattle Center which was attended by at least 1000 fans and friends, including Cantrell, Starr, Inez, Kinney and Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell.

Cantrell noted in an interview that he was " raised on country music " as a youth and that he admires the emotion conveyed in the genre.

Layne Staley, a vocalist and Cantrell's roommate, also agreed to join on the condition that Cantrell join his funk project ( which ended shortly after ).

As the activity of Alice in Chains slowed and the band's future came into question, Cantrell reluctantly began work on his first full-length solo record.

Cantrell has been rumored to be working on his third full-length solo album for several years, for a supposedly planned release in 2006.

Cantrell has appeared as guest guitarist on several albums and projects, including the Danzig album Blackacidevil and the Metallica album Garage Inc.

Cantrell also spends time on his family's Oklahoma ranch which was once featured on an episode of MTV Cribs.
