In November 1924, Frankie was asked once again to come to Chicago to help out his old pals, Al Capone and Johnny Torrio ; they needed another rival murdered.

The Saint Valentine's Day Massacre is the name given to the 1929 murder of 7 mob associates as part of a prohibition era conflict between two powerful criminal gangs in Chicago: the South Side Italian gang led by Al Capone and the North Side Irish gang led by Bugs Moran.

This massacre was allegedly planned by the Capone mob in retaliation for an unsuccessful attempt by Frank Gusenberg and his brother Peter to murder Jack McGurn earlier in the year and for the North Side Gang's complicity in the murders of Pasqualino " Patsy " Lolordo and Antonio " The Scourge " Lombardo – both had been presidents of the Unione Siciliane, the local Mafia, and close associates of Capone.

One of them had also been used in the murder of Brooklyn mob boss Frankie Yale, which confirmed the New York Police Department ’ s long-held theory that Burke, and by extension Al Capone, had been responsible for Yale's death.

Louis " Lepke " Buchalter, Mendy Weiss, Louis Capone and Philip (" Little Farvel ") Cohen were indicted for the murder of candy-store owner Joe Rosen.

The Court of Appeals upheld the murder convictions of Lepke, Weiss and Capone in October 1942 on a 4 – 3 vote.

Also convicted and sentenced to death for the same crime were two of Buchalter's lieutenants who had participated in the planning and commission of the Rosen murder, Emanuel " Mendy " Weiss, and Louis Capone ( no relation to Al Capone ).

Al Capone, one of the most famous bootleggers of them all, built his criminal empire largely on profits from illegal alcohol, and effectively used coercion ( including murder ) to impose barriers to entry to his competitors.

Police repeatedly questioned Capone about the Yale murder, but nothing came of the inquiries.

The power and influence he held in Minneapolis were often compared to that of Al Capone in Chicago and were associated with several high-profile crimes in the city's history, including his alleged involvement in the murder of a cab driver and the attempted murders of police officer James H. Trepanier and newspaperman Walter Liggett.

Al Capone, a Torrio henchman, was, allegedly, directly involved in the murder.

The St. Valentine's Day Massacre is a 1967 gangster film based on the 1929 Chicago mass murder of seven members of the Northside gang, directed against George " Bugs " Moran by Al Capone.

Capone did order the murder of Aiello, though it was carried out by members of his gang at a much later date.
