Samuel James " Sam " Cassell ( born November 18, 1969 ), is a retired American professional basketball player and current assistant coach for the Washington Wizards.

Founding bass player, Cassell, retired from bass duties in 2003 to concentrate on being one of three partners in the Ivy League Records label and the Winterman & Goldstein band management agency ( Youth Group's Australian record label and management, respectively ).

However, Miranda's opponents, notably law professor Paul Cassell, argued that letting go 3 or 4 % of criminal suspects ( who would be prosecuted otherwise but for defective Miranda warnings, or acting on defective waivers by defendants ) is still too high a price to pay.

Throughout the 2007 – 08 season, it had been rumored that Cassell would get bought out of his contract with the Clippers, especially after they let the trade deadline pass without dealing him.

Cassell would have to walk away from all of his remaining salary to receive a buyout, and initially was not ready to do so.

On March 1, 2008, Cassell's agent, David Falk, confirmed that Cassell would sign a contract with the Celtics for the remainder of the season if he cleared waivers, receiving a prorated amount of the veteran minimum of $ 1. 2M.

Cassell said that he would wear either No. 28 or No. 91 on his jersey, and eventually chose No. 28.

However, whereas Cassell went on to become a consistent floor leader and Jackson, Gatling and McCloud all continued to be solid contributors to their teams for several more years, only Bradley lasted any sort of time in Dallas and would spend part of the next eight years putting up modest contributions for the Mavs and giving them solid numbers in terms of blocked shots.

During the offseason, they traded All-Star Sam Cassell and a protected future first-round draft pick to the Los Angeles Clippers for Marko Jaric and Lionel Chalmers.

Also Sam Cassell ( widely credited as the biggest reason for the Clippers ' recent success ) signed a two-year, $ 13 million deal.

Cassell appeared to have found a home with the Clippers, as he led them to the Western Conference Semifinals in the 2006 Playoffs.

Before the 2006 – 07 season, Cassell was tempted to take a two-year, $ 15M offer from the Atlanta Hawks, but eventually re-signed with the Clippers on a two-year, $ 13M deal.

Cassell first denied that he was pushing strongly towards a buyout, but eventually acknowledged his buyout talks with the Clippers.

But on February 28, 2008, the Clippers reached a contractual buyout agreement with Cassell and placed him on waivers.

Livingston, who has a wingspan, is tall for point guard standards () and, due to the addition of Sam Cassell to the Clippers ' roster, saw playing time at shooting guard.

Mobley, along with Sam Cassell and Elton Brand, led the Clippers to the 2006 NBA playoffs.

After graduating from Dunbar High School in Baltimore, Maryland, Cassell spent a post graduate year at Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, Maine under coach Max Good.

On May 21, 2009, Cassell was named assistant coach under Flip Saunders of the Washington Wizards.

The company, " Cassell, Petter & Galpin ", which at the time of his death, employed 500 people, continued to prosper under the management of the remaining partners, Petter and Galpin.

While waiting for the season to begin, he began playing pickup basketball against current NBA players Kobe Bryant, Sam Cassell, Kevin Garnett, Mike Dunleavy, Jr., D. J. Augustin, Jason Kidd, Adam Morrison, and J. J. Redick.
