Frederick Chamier ( 1796 – 1870 ) was a novelist and naval captain born in London.

As a midshipman on board the frigate Salcette in May 1810, young Chamier watched Lord Byron swim across the Hellespont at the second attempt.

He is related to Daniel Chamier.

Daniel Chamier ( 1564 – 1621 ) was a Huguenot minister in France, founder of the Academy of Montpellier and author.

Chamier returned, however, after a short time to Montélimar.

When Louis XIII besieged the city in 1621, Chamier sent his students to the walls, and was mortally wounded during the defense.

Air Commodore Sir John Adrian Chamier CB, CMG, DSO, OBE ( 26 December 1883-3 May 1974 ) also known as " The Founding Father of the ATC " for his role in the foundation of the Air Training Corps, was born in 1883.

Chamier was educated at RMA Sandhurst.

After leaving India, Chamier joined the Royal Flying Corps, in which he served as a pilot in the First World War.

After retirement from the RAF, Chamier became secretary of the Air League of the British Empire.

During his tenure as secretary Chamier became involved with the founding, in 1938 of the Air Defence Cadet Corps, which on February 5, 1941 evolved in to the Air Training Corps because the ADCC was seen as too forceful and decided to change it to a more subtle name of ATC.

After it was founded, Chamier became the Air Training Corps ' first Commandant, until his retirement in 1944.

Between 1928 and 1931 Chamier was a director on the board of Vickers ( Aviation ) Limited.

Chamier has received several decorations for his service to the British Empire.

In the words of historian François Mignet: The assembly had acquired the entire power ; the corporations depended on it ; the national guards obeyed it ...

Mignet also points to Adrien Duport, Antoine Pierre Joseph Marie Barnave, and Alexander Lameth as leaders among the " most extreme of this party " in this period, leaders in taking " a more advanced position than that which the revolution had this time attained.

François Mignet writes, " Their enterprise had been projected and suspended several times.
