In 2009, caretaker manager Guus Hiddink guided Chelsea to another FA Cup success, and in 2009 – 10, his successor Carlo Ancelotti led them to their first league and FA Cup " Double ", becoming the first English club to score 100 league goals in a season since 1963.

Under caretaker manager Roberto Di Matteo, Chelsea won their seventh FA Cup, and their first UEFA Champions League title, beating Bayern Munich 4 – 3 on penalties, the first London club to win the trophy.

He scored his seventh Wembley goal in fantastic style against London rivals Tottenham on 15 April, hammering the ball past former teammate Carlo Cudicini, as Chelsea ran out 5 – 1 winners and secured a place in the FA Cup Final against Liverpool.

It was Claudio Ranieri, then manager of Chelsea, who decided that Čech was his choice as understudy to Carlo Cudicini.

When Čech arrived at Chelsea, Carlo Cudicini was established as Chelsea's first choice goalkeeper.

Former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has described him as a quick player with good aerial ability, technique, shooting, and movement off the ball.

After Carlo Ancelotti left Milan to become the manager of Chelsea F. C.

* 14 October 2006 – Chelsea goalkeepers, Petr Čech and Carlo Cudicini, both received head injuries during their match against Reading.

When Carlo Ancelotti took over as Chelsea manager, on 1 July 2009, Wilkins was appointed assistant manager.

Both clubs were offering the out-of-favour goalkeeper a backup post: at Chelsea, he would understudy Carlo Cudicini ; at Everton, the first-choice was Richard Wright.

He then made his debut for Chelsea coming on as a substitute for Carlo Cudicini in the final home game of the 2004 – 05 Premiership season against Charlton Athletic.

The next season he was appointed the assistant manager alongside Carlo Ancelotti who had joined PSG from his Makelele's previous club, Chelsea.
