Three of Clement's major works have survived in full, and they are collectively referred to as the trilogy:

For example a group at MIT concluded that the planet Mesklin in Hal Clement's 1953 novel Mission of Gravity would have had a sharp edge at the equator, and a Florida high-school class calculated that in Larry Niven's 1970 novel Ringworld the topsoil would have slid into the seas in a few thousand years.

For this, one of Clement's predecessors, Pope Boniface VIII, had attempted to have Philip excommunicated, but Philip then had Boniface abducted and charged with heresy.

A number of charities have their administrative offices at St Clement's including the Cure Parkinson's Trust.

A small churchyard remains to the east of St. Clement's hemmed-in by the backs of office buildings and contains tombstones whose inscriptions have, over time, become illegible.

However, differences of substance compare with Clement's other writings have been noted.

Since the only knowledge we have of " Secret Mark " is from the Mar Saba letter, it is currently impossible to know if Clement's view of " Secret Mark " as an extension of the canonical Gospel of Mark was accurate, or if " Secret Mark " was actually the original version of the Gospel of Mark.

In 1527, due to Charles ' inability to pay them sufficiently, his armies in Northern Italy mutinied and sacked Rome itself for loot, forcing Clement, and succeeding popes, to be considerably more prudent in their dealings with secular authorities: in 1533, Clement's refusal to annul Henry VIII of England's marriage to Catherine of Aragon ( Charles ' aunt ) was a direct consequence of his unwillingness to offend the emperor and perhaps have his capital sacked a second time.

As the Republicans had long since lost interest in a seat they hadn't won since 1875 ( Democrats have faced only token opposition since 1972 ), Clement's victory in the special election of January 19, 1988 was a foregone conclusion.

Dillon and Gergel posit the alternate possibility that the speech was composed by the 2nd-century CE Herodes Atticus, of whom we have extracts similar in spirit to Clement's fragment, and sound authentically 5th-century, exhibiting detailed knowledge of Thessalian politics.

The personalities of Clement's alien characters have been criticized as being " too human " or not " alien enough ", as failing to be, in the words of John W. Campbell " something that thinks as well as a man, but not like a man ".

It has been suggested that Clement's progressive views on gender as set out in the Paedagogus were influenced by Gnosticism.

The Stromata is less systematic and ordered than Clement's other works, and it has been theorized by André Méhat that it was intended for a limited, esoteric readership.

Clement's only genuine extant writing is his letter to the church at Corinth ( 1 Clement ), in response to a dispute in which certain presbyters of the Corinthian church had been deposed.

PC Cock was buried at St Clement's Church, Chorlton, and a fine memorial was afterwards erected there, but it has since been removed to the Lancashire Constabulary Headquarters at Hutton near Preston ( a plain inscribed stone records the position of the grave and the churchyard is now disused ).

One of the rectors of St. Clement's, Dr. Benjamin Stone, who had been presented to the living by Bishop Juxon, being deemed " too Popish " by Oliver Cromwell, was imprisoned for some time at Crosby Hall.

In 1659 he published in London his celebrated Exposition of the Creed, dedicated to his parishioners of St Clement's, Eastcheap, to whom the substance of the work had been preached several years before.

The uninhabited island has been designated St. Clement's Island State Park.

Clement's streak of playing in 119 straight games was snapped in 2008, when he was inactive against the New York Jets.

Through the efforts of the St. Clement's Hundred, a local community organization created for the preservation of St. Clement's Island, a replica of the Blackistone Lighthouse was constructed and completed in June 2008.

The Mariner's Cross is also referred to as St. Clement's Cross, in reference to the way this saint was martyred ( being tied to an anchor and thrown from a boat into the Black Sea in 102 ).

The union was confirmed by Pope Paul V in 1606, at which time the congregation added the name of St. Barnabas to its title, adopted new constitutions, divided its houses into four provinces, two of them, St Clement's and St Pancras's, being in Rome.

Neither Clement's birthdate or birthplace is known with any degree of certainty.

Clement's journeys were primarily a religious undertaking.

Otherwise, virtually nothing is known of Clement's life in Alexandria.

Clement's diet is also unknown, but he said some things that look down upon eating flesh such as, " It is good ... neither to eat flesh " and that even the fumes from cooked flesh " darken the soul "; however he said non-vegetarians aren't sinning except in certain circumstances such as those who eat flesh with " gluttony " and he was not opposed to all instances of eating meat.

It is chiefly important due to Clement's exposition of religion as an anthropological phenomenon.

Despite its explicitly Christian nature, Clement's work draws on Stoic philosophy and pagan literature ; Homer alone is cited over sixty times in the work.

The word play on λόγος and αλόγον is characteristic of Clement's writing, and may be rooted in the Epicurean belief that relationships between words are deeply reflective of relationships between the objects they signify.

The work finishes with selections of scripture supporting Clement's argument, and following a prayer, the lyrics of a hymn.

This parallels Clement's earlier insistence that martyrdom can only be achieved by those who practice their faith in Christ through good deeds, not those who simply profess their faith.

Besides the great trilogy, Clement's only other extant work is the treatise Salvation for the rich.

These cover Clement's celestial hierarchy, a complex schema in which the universe is headed by the Face of God, below which lie seven protoctists, followed by archangels, angels and humans.

Others are known only from mentions in Clement's own writings, including On Marriage and On Prophecy, although few are attested by other writers and it is difficult to separate works which he intended to write from those which were actually completed.

Eusebius is the first writer to provide an account of Clement's life and works, in the Church History.

Eusebius provides a list of Clement's works, biographical information, and an extended quotation from the Stromata.

Photios I of Constantinople writes against Clement's theology in the Bibliotheca, although he is appreciative of Clement's learning and the literary merits of his work.

Photius compared Clement's treatise, which like his other works was highly syncretic, featuring ideas of Hellenistic, Jewish and Gnostic origin, unfavourably against the prevailing orthodoxy of the 9th century.

While considered a saint in most other branches of Christianity, Clement's veneration is very limited, although the Universal Catholic Church's cathedral in Dallas is dedicated to him.

The church in the movie is St Clement's Church in the village of Old Romney, which was restored by the film company.

However, there is some degree of debate regarding Clement's exact meaning of " spiritual gospel "; care must be taken not to ascribe to his phrase modern prejudices or expectations.
