Isaac de Beausobre properly calls attention to the significant silence of Clement in the two passages in which he instructs the Christians of Alexandria on the right use of rings and gems, and the figures which may legitimately be engraved on them ( Paed.

On this passage the theologian Joseph Barber Lightfoot ( Apostolic Fathers, 1885, II, p. 84 ) noted: " Clement may possibly be referring to some known, but hardly accessible land, lying without the pillars of Hercules.

In 211, Alexander of Jerusalem wrote a letter commending him to the Church of Antioch, which may imply that Clement was living in in Cappadocia at that time.

Clement of Alexandria, in his Paedagogus ( The Pedagogue ) 3. 59. 2-3. 60, writes that Christians may wear a seal ring for the sealing of documents, and he specifies permissible depictions: " And let our seals be either a dove, or a fish, or a ship scudding before the wind, or a musical lyre, which Polycrates used, or a ship's anchor, which Seleucus got engraved as a device ; and if there be one fishing, he will remember the apostle, and the children drawn out of the water.

Wells further states that differences between the Josephus account and those of Hegesippus and Clement of Alexandria may point to interpolations in the James passage.

Referring to Clement of Alexandria, Stromata III, 2, Philip Schaff commented: " The early disappearance of the Christian agapæ may probably be attributed to the terrible abuse of the word here referred to, by the licentious Carpocratians.

Five centuries later Clement of Alexandria, in his Stromateis, may have misunderstood Megasthenes to be responding to claims of Greek primacy by admitting Greek views of physics were preceded by those of Jews and Indians.

Later on Clement quotes a similar doctrine, which derives from the same background, and which he attributes explicitly to the Apocalypse of Peter: ' Divine providence extends not only to those who are in the flesh, Peter, for example, says in his Apocalypse, " Aborted infants are entrusted to a guardian angel, so that having obtained a share in the gnosis they may arrive at a better destiny "' ( XLVIII, 1 ).

With great ingenuity J. B. Lightfoot, in Clement of Rome ( London, 1890 ), found traces of a list of popes in Epiphanius of Cyprus, ( Haer., xxvii, 6 ) that may also derive from Hegesippus, where that fourth-century writer carelessly says: " Marcellina came to us lately and destroyed many, in the days of Anicetus, Bishop of Rome ", and then refers to " the above catalogue ", though he has given none.

W. Clement Stone once stated, “ Regardless of what you are or what you have been, you can still become what you may want to be .”

The sweeping design of destroying a number of City churches was mediated in … 1834, and for the time arrested by the resolute opposition to the measure in the instance of the first church marked out for sacrifice, St. Clement Eastcheap, it may be feared is at length coming into full operation, not, indeed in the open manner in which it was displayed at that period, but in an insidious and more secure mode of procedure.
