The Cliff Palace is the largest cliff dwelling in North America.

Tree ring dating indicates that construction and refurbishing of Cliff Palace was continuous from c. 1190 CE through c. 1260 CE, although the major portion of the building was done within a twenty-year time span.

Cliff Palace was abandoned by 1300, and while debate remains as to the causes of this, some believe a series of megadroughts interrupting food production systems is the main cause.

Cliff Palace was first discovered in 1888 by Richard Wetherhill and Charlie Mason while out looking for stray cattle.

The Cliff Palace was constructed primarily out of sandstone, mortar and wooden beams.

Many visitors wonder about the relatively small size of the doorways at Cliff Palace ; the explanation being that at the time the average man was under 5 ' 6 ", while the average woman was closer to 5 '.

The Cliff Palace contains 23 kivas ( round sunken rooms of ceremonial importance ), and 150 rooms and had a population of approximately 100 people.

It is estimated that around 100 people inhabited Cliff Palace during its time of use.

" It is thought that Cliff Palace was a social, administrative site with high ceremonial usage ".

Archaeologists believe that the Cliff Palace contained more clans than the surrounding Mesa Verde communities.

Cliff Palace has a room to kiva ratio of 9 to 1.

This ratio of kivas to rooms may suggest that Cliff Palace might have been the center of a large polity that included surrounding small communities.

The Yavapai-Apache Nation operates the Cliff Castle Casino, a popular gaming, recreation, dining and lodging attraction in the Verde Valley.

* Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument near Silver City

The first World Series game was a highly anticipated matchup between 2-time National League Cy Young Award winner ( 2008, 2009 ) Tim Lincecum, against the 2008 American League Cy Young award winner and heretofore undefeated in postseason play Cliff Lee.

The leading proponents of the theory are Anna Wierzbicka at Warsaw University and later at the Australian National University who originated the theory in the early 1970s ( Wierzbicka 1972 ), and Cliff Goddard at Australia's Griffith University ( Goddard & Wierzbicka 1994, 2002 ).

The Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument is about north of Silver City, via NM 15.

In New Mexico there is also the Aztec Ruins National Monument, Bandelier National Monument, Capulin Volcano National Monument, Carlsbad Caverns National Park, Chaco Culture National Historical Park, El Malpais National Monument, El Morro National Monument, Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument, Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument, Pecos National Historical Park, Petroglyph National Monument, and the Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument.

The Hiawatha Farm, Waits Methodist Episcopal Church and Cemetery, and Vesper Cliff are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Other notable sites include Svartifoss in Skaftafell National Park in Iceland, Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland, Fingal's Cave in Scotland, Titan's Piazza of the Mount Holyoke Range in Massachusetts, the Garni Gorge in Armenia, the Cyclopean Isles near Sicily, Sheepeater Cliff at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, Prismas Basálticos in Huasca de Ocampo, Mexico, the " Organ Pipes " formation on Mount Cargill in New Zealand, Gilbert Hill in Mumbai, Organ Pipes National Park in Australia and the " Column Cape " ( Russian: Mis Stolbchaty ) on Kunashir Island, the southernmost of the Kuril Islands.

Cliff Drive, in Kessler Park on the North Bluffs, is a designated State Scenic Byway.

* The Warren, Kent, part of the East Cliff and Warren Country Park

These are now part of the East Cliff and Warren Country Park.

Today the Quad Cities community consists of the larger cities of Davenport, Iowa ; Bettendorf, Iowa ; Moline, Illinois ; Rock Island, Illinois ; and East Moline, Illinois, as well as surrounding smaller cities Eldridge, Long Grove, Park View, Blue Grass, Buffalo, Walcott, Maysville, Mount Joy, Pleasant Valley, LeClaire, Panorama Park, and Riverdale in Iowa and Silvis, Milan, Hampton, Carbon Cliff, Port Byron, Andalusia, Coal Valley, and Colona in Illinois.

In 1906, John S. Armstrong ( the former partner of Thomas Marsalis, the prominent developer of Oak Cliff ), sold his meatpacking business and invested his money in a portion of the former Philadelphia Place land, to develop it under the name of Highland Park.

Three roads lead up the Palisades Cliff: Route 5, with one switchback, ascends to Palisades Avenue, which leads north into Fort Lee and south into Cliffside Park.

* East Cliff Park.

High Cliff State Park in Wisconsin shows how modern and prehistoric humans used the escarpment for not only cultural reasons but economic gains as well.

In 1934, Red Sox owner Tom Yawkey arranged to flatten the ground in left field so that Duffy's Cliff no longer existed, and it became part of the lore of Fenway Park.

Brewster's second largest pond is Cliff Pond located in Nickerson State Park.

Cliff jumping is another water activity locals and visitors enjoy at " Devil's Water Hole " located within the confines of Inks Lake State Park on Inks Lake.
