The town is a popular location from which to explore the Derbyshire Peak District and offers a range of accommodation for visitors, some of it in historic buildings, such 18th century Old Manor House on Coldwell Street and the Old Lock-Up guest house, which dates from 1842.

Coldwell also served as the CCF's national chairman from 1938 to 1942.

The year was a disaster for the CCF, both nationally and in Ontario, which Coldwell and the CCF's main players realized at the time.

The other neighbourhoods also broadly follow their historical boundaries ; the central area includes Felling town centre and the surrounding streets, whilst High Felling incorporates Coldwell Lane and the adjoining streets moving south towards Windy Nook.

Coldwell turned down several offers to cross the floor and join the governing Liberal Party of Canada, including one offer that eventually would have made him the Prime Minister of Canada.

Coldwell, mostly cared that his party's policies were becoming law, and was not too concerned if he and the CCF received little, if any, credit for them.

According to Coldwell, in the ensuing conversation Brownlee indicated that he would be prepared to consider running federally as a CCF candidate.

Woodsworth, a pacifist, opposed the war effort, while Coldwell and the rest of the CCF caucus supported the war, and Coldwell's view was the party's official position.

The association was then officially launched on 1 July 1967, the 100th anniversary of the formation of Canadian Confederation, with Governor General Roland Michener being the first inductee to the order — to the level of Companion — and on 7 July of the same year, 90 more people were appointed, including Vincent Massey, Louis St. Laurent, Hugh MacLennan, David Bauer, Gabrielle Roy, Donald Creighton, Thérèse Casgrain, Wilder Penfield, Arthur Lismer, M. J. Coldwell, Edwin Baker, Alex Colville, and Maurice Richard.

He was awarded many honorary degrees, and a foundation was named for him and his political mentor Major James Coldwell during 1971.

The 1958 Canadian general election was a disaster for the CCF, with its caucus reduced to eight, and its leader M. J. Coldwell losing his own seat, the party executive knew that their party was dying and needed radical change.

Coldwell was persuaded by the party's executive to remain as the party's leader.

During the lead-up to the 1960 CCF convention, Argue was pressing Coldwell to step down.

As far back as 1941, Coldwell wanted Douglas to succeed him in leading the National CCF ( at that time, it was obvious that Coldwell would be assuming the national leadership in the near future ).

Coldwell did not trust Argue, and many in the CCF leadership thought that he was already having secret meetings with the Liberals to merge the " New Party " with the Liberal Party of Canada.

As well, it was thought by Coldwell and Douglas, that Lewis would not be a viable alternative to Argue, because he likely could not defeat him, partially due to his lack of a parliamentary seat but also, and likely more importantly, his role as party disciplinarian over the years, made him many enemies, enough to potentially prevent him from winning the leadership.

In 1964, Yorkshire lost the County Championship title which was won for the first time by a very strong Worcestershire team which starred Tom Graveney and featured Basil D ' Oliveira, Norman Gifford and fast bowlers Len Coldwell and Jack Flavell.

When Coldwell resigned as the national CCF leader in 1960, Argue succeeded him when he was elected leader at the party's last convention in the summer of 1960.

After graduating from Furman University his first job was as an associate for Coldwell Banker in 1983.

Coldwell was born in Seaton, England on December 2, 1888.

Coldwell was defeated in his election bid.

In the 1935 federal election, Coldwell was elected to the House of Commons as Member of Parliament ( MP ) for the riding of Rosetown-Biggar.

When Woodsworth resigned as CCF leader in 1942, shortly before his death, Coldwell was unanimously elected the party's new national leader and president.

By 1982, using the “ unitary thrift ” and “ nonbank bank ” “ loopholes ”, Sears had built the “ Sears Financial Network ”, which combined “ Super NOW ” accounts and mortgage loans through a large California-based savings and loan, the Discover Card issued by a “ nonbank bank ,” securities brokerage through Dean Witter Reynolds, home and auto insurance through Allstate, and real estate brokerage through Coldwell Banker.

CCF national president David Lewis – who succeeded Coldwell as president in 1958, when the national chairman and national president positions were merged – and the rest of the new party's organizers, opposed Argue's manoeuvres, and wanted Douglas to be the new party's first leader.

Coldwell stepped-down as leader, and Argue replaced him, becoming the party's final national leader.

When the time came for the " New Party " to form, in 1961, Coldwell pressured Douglas to run for the leadership.

Douglas, after much consultation, with Coldwell, Lewis and his caucus, decided in June 1961 to reluctantly contest the leadership of the New Party.

Instead, he and his friend and political mentor M. J. Coldwell were honoured by the party with the creation of the Douglas-Coldwell Foundation in 1971.

In the early 1940s, he met M. J. Coldwell, the new federal leader of the CCF, on a train.

Her scholarship and renown was such that a leading newspaper in Palestine excitedly reported her plans to immigrate to Palestine.

The press excitedly reported that the solicitor had flown to Simpson accompanied by a gynaecologist and an anaesthetist ( who was actually the lawyer's clerk ).

They also rigged a telegraph between their houses, over which once Baer excitedly reported to his friend an astronomical discovery he thought he had made — perhaps a supernova, he thought — and told Emil where in the sky to look.
