The Leadville strike set the scene not only for the WFM's consideration of militant tactics and its embrace of radicalism, but also for the birth of the Western Labor Union ( which became the American Labor Union ), the WFM's participation in the founding of the Industrial Workers of the World, and for events which culminated in the Colorado Labor Wars.

The accusations, animosity, gunplay, and expulsions which followed were one part of an ongoing struggle throughout Colorado's mining communities which came to be called the Colorado Labor Wars.

The WFM strike of 1903 and the governor's response precipitated the Colorado Labor Wars, a struggle that took many lives.

Within five years of its formation, Teller County became the scene of a dramatic labor struggle called the Colorado Labor Wars.

In March 1908, at the end of a series of trials relating to a Coeur d ' Alene miners ' uprising and the Colorado Labor Wars, Albert Horsley, better known by his pseudonym Harry Orchard, pleaded guilty in District Court in Caldwell to the assassination of former Idaho governor Frank Steunenberg.

Years later Harry Orchard, who owned a share of the Hercules Mine in the nearby mountains before it began producing, and who later confessed to dynamiting a $ 250, 000 mill belonging to the Bunker Hill Mining Company near Wardner during another miners ' uprising in 1899, would also confess to a secret, brutal and little understood role in the Colorado Labor Wars before returning to Idaho to assassinate former Idaho Governor Frank Steunenberg.

One of the most dramatic of these struggles occurred in the Cripple Creek district in 1903-04, and has been called the Colorado Labor Wars.

Labor Historian Melvyn Dubofsky traces the birth of the Industrial Workers of the World ( IWW ) to the industrial unionism of the Western Federation of Miners, and their years under fire during the Colorado Labor Wars.

During the first two decades of the 20th century, he was involved in several important labor battles, including the Colorado Labor Wars, the Lawrence textile strike, and other textile strikes in Massachusetts and New Jersey.

The WFM took a conservative turn in the aftermath of the Colorado Labor Wars and the trials of its president, Charles Moyer, and its secretary treasurer, Big Bill Haywood, for the conspiratorial assassination of Idaho's former governor.

During the Colorado Labor Wars, the Colorado National Guard had been called into the Cripple Creek Mining District to put down a strike.

He had also engaged in the construction of natural gas pipelines, was a wholesale dealer in beef and pork products and an organizer and trustee of Colorado Springs Labor College.

He was born in Jamestown, New York to Joseph Waite ( 1787 – 1855 ) and Olive Davis Waite ( 1786 – 1851 ), and served in the state legislatures of Wisconsin in 1857, and Kansas in 1879, before eventually moving to Colorado, where he started the local newspaper in Aspen, Colorado and was secretary in the local assembly of the Knights of Labor.

Moving to Denver, Colorado, she worked for the National Labor Relations Board from 1964 to 1966.

The Sand Creek Massacre ( also known as the Chivington Massacre, the Battle of Sand Creek or the Massacre of Cheyenne Indians ) was an atrocity in the Indian Wars of the United States that occurred on November 29, 1864, when a 700-man force of Colorado Territory militia attacked and destroyed a village of friendly Cheyenne and Arapaho encamped in southeastern Colorado Territory, killing and mutilating an estimated 70 – 163 Indians, about two-thirds of whom were women and children.

John Milton Chivington ( January 27, 1821 – October 4, 1894 ) was a colonel in the United States Army who served in the American Indian Wars during the Colorado War and the New Mexico Campaigns of the American Civil War.
