In 1927 Mintz ordered Disney to stop producing Alice Comedies due to the costs of combining live-action and animation and since the cartoons were beginning to focus more on Julius rather than Alice, it would make more economic sense to create a fully animated series.

One of the few films that can be seen as a direct precursor to the Ealing Comedies is Saloon Bar ( 1940 ), in which the regulars of a public bar join forces to clear the name of the barmaid's boyfriend who has been accused of murder.

Although seen as cute and funny in their time, the Alice Comedies contain content which might be considered surprising and somewhat harsh today by sensitive viewers.

In 2000, Inkwell Images released a DVD titled Alice in Cartoonland-The Original Alice Comedies by Walt Disney in the series Golden Classics with ten short films from the series as well as some documentaries and a poster gallery.

The film also holds position # 54 on the American Film Institute's 100 Years ... 100 Laughs list of the top 100 funniest films in movie history, and in 2006 was voted by Premiere one of " The 50 Greatest Comedies Of All Time ".

The appearances and personalities of other 1920s feline stars such as Julius of Walt Disney's Alice Comedies, Waffles of Paul Terry's Aesop's Film Fables, and especially Bill Nolan's 1925 adaptation of Krazy Kat ( distributed by the eschewed Winkler ) all seem to have been directly patterned after Felix.
