In 2011 ARYA released Hendrik Bouman's " 5 Baroque Concertos for Anna " performed by The Baroque Muse of which Bouman is the founding director and Simon Standage the leader ( concert master ).

The situation is only seemingly different in the case of such late classical works as Beethoven's Fourth and Fifth Piano Concertos, where the soloist is heard at the outset: as the later unfolding of those movements makes clear, the opening piano solo or early piano flourishes actually precede the start of the exposition proper.

Each volume focused on a certain genre of orchestral or choral music ( for example, Volumes I and II were devoted to ' Symphonies '; Volume III to ' Concertos '), with perhaps two or three dozen works discussed with the help of plentiful music examples.

Bach wrote numerous Baroque works, including preludes, cantatas, fugues, concertos for harpsichord, violin and wind, orchestral suites, the Brandenburg Concertos, St Matthew Passion, St John Passion and the Christmas Oratorio.

As I had the good fortune a few years ago to be heard by Your Royal Highness, at Your Highness's commands, and as I noticed then that Your Highness took some pleasure in the little talents which Heaven has given me for Music, and as in taking Leave of Your Royal Highness, Your Highness deigned to honour me with the command to send Your Highness some pieces of my Composition: I have in accordance with Your Highness's most gracious orders taken the liberty of rendering my most humble duty to Your Royal Highness with the present Concertos, which I have adapted to several instruments ; begging Your Highness most humbly not to judge their imperfection with the rigor of that discriminating and sensitive taste, which everyone knows Him to have for musical works, but rather to take into benign Consideration the profound respect and the most humble obedience which I thus attempt to show Him.

He has also recorded the complete Rachmaninoff Concertos and major solo piano works for Nimbus Records.

In addition to his many recordings of works by Chopin, Schumann, and Liszt, he made important recordings of music by Weber, Mendelssohn, Franck, Debussy and others, and conducted the first complete recording of the Brandenburg Concertos, in which he performed the lengthy solo cadenza of the fifth concerto on a modern piano.

Amongst his best-known recordings are the piano concerti of Edvard Grieg and Robert Schumann with conductor Herbert von Karajan ; the Brahms concerti with Leonard Bernstein, the piano concerti of Frédéric Chopin, one recording conducted by Carlo Maria Giulini and a later one conducted by himself at the keyboard ; the Third, Fourth and Fifth Piano Concertos of Beethoven under Bernstein ( Zimerman himself led the accompaniment of the Vienna Philharmonic from the keyboard in Beethoven's First and Second Concertos ); the first and second piano concerti of Rachmaninoff ; the piano concerti of Franz Liszt with Seiji Ozawa, the piano concerti of Maurice Ravel with Pierre Boulez, and solo piano works by Frédéric Chopin, Franz Liszt, Claude Debussy and Franz Schubert.

Medtner, already in declining health, recorded his three Piano Concertos and some sonatas, chamber music, numerous songs and shorter works before his death in London in 1951.

He wrote music in larger forms such as Piano Concertos, a Sonata in D minor, symphonic works, and operas.

George Frideric Handel, famous for his reuse of his own music and ' borrowings ' from the works of others, wrote his Grand Concertos, Op.

His most notable works were the five Concertos Symphoniques, essentially symphonies with piano obbligato.

Renowned composers of contemporary music dedicated works to David Geringas, thus the Concerto in Do by Anatolijus Šenderovas, being played by David Geringas for the first time in 2002 and being awarded the European Composers Prize in Berlin, the Cello Concerto by Ned Rorem, world premiere 2003 in the USA, the Cello Concertos by Vytautas Laurušas and by Vidmantas Bartulis, world premiere 2004 respective 2005 in Latvia.

He composed several chamber and piano works, which are highly regarded, as well as a number of orchestral works, overtures and concertos ( a Concerto for String Orchestra, two Piano Concertos, a Violin Concerto and a Cello Concerto ).

They, and an accompanying cluster of works such as September Music, the Serenade, two Violin Concertos, the symphonic poem In the Dark Time, and the monumental orchestral Chaconne ( inspired by a poem of Geoffrey Hill ), show that he can handle large and small orchestras.

Schweitzer, who insisted that the score should show Bach's notation with no additional markings, wrote the commentaries for the Preludes and Fugues, and Widor those for the Sonatas and Concertos: six volumes were published in 1912 – 14.

Concertos for the instrument were written by Francis Poulenc ( the Concert champêtre, 1927 – 28 ), Manuel de Falla, Bertold Hummel, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, Michael Nyman, Philip Glass, and Roberto Carnevale.

Concertos have been composed for piccolo, including those by Lowell Liebermann, Antonio Vivaldi, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, Todd Goodman, Martin Amlin, Will Gay Bottje, Bruce Broughton, Valentino Bucchi, Avner Dorman, Jean Doué, Michael Easton, Egil Hovland, Guus Janssen, Tilo Medek, Dexter Morrill, Raymond Niverd, Daniel Pinkham, Thomas Schudel, and Allan Stephenson.

The BSO's first commercial recording with Karabits ( of Rodion Shchedrin's Concertos for Orchestra Nos 4 and 5 ) was released on the Naxos label in April 2010.

The dedication page Bach wrote for the collection indicates they are Concerts avec plusieurs instruments ( Concertos with several instruments ).

In 1957 this group also recorded two of Vivaldi's Concertos for Four Harpsichords, one in a Bach arrangement, with the Pro Arte Orchestra under Boris Ord.

There were also recordings of four of Bach's two and three Keyboard Concertos, issued by Columbia, under the baton of Eugene Ormandy, Pierre Deveux and Edmund de Stoutz.

Klami also experimented with the symphonic form in his two Symphonies ( 1938 and 1945 ) and Symphonie enfantine ( 1927 ), and the concerto form in his two Piano Concertos ( No. 1 Une nuit à Montmartre and No. 2 for Piano and Strings ) and the Violin Concerto ( 1943 ).

Only two were published: Six Solos for German Flute and the Six Concertos for Strings.

All seven of Arnell's numbered symphonies together with the Sinfonia Quasi Variazioni, the Piano Concerto ( soloist David Owen Norris ), the two Violin Concertos ( soloist Lorraine MacAslan ), Lord Byron: a Symphonic Portrait, Robert Flaherty Impression, Prelude The Black Mountain and the early Overture The New Age, received their world premiere recordings by conductor Martin Yates and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra between 2005 and 2008.
