The CSXT line through Silver Creek was formerly operated by the Consolidated Rail Corporation ( Conrail ), which succeeded the Penn Central ( which succeeded the New York Central Railroad, which succeeded the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway, which succeeded the Lake Shore Railroad, which succeeded the Buffalo & Erie Railway, the original line ).

The new law folded six northeastern railroads, the PC and five smaller, failed lines, into the Consolidated Rail Corporation, commonly known as Conrail.

This line was opened in 1850 and known, prior to its 1999 acquisition by the Norfolk Southern, under the following names: New York & Erie Rail Road ; Erie Railway ; New York, Lake Erie & Western Railroad ; Erie Railroad ; Erie-Lackawanna Railroad ; Erie Lackawanna Railroad ; Erie Lackawanna Railway, and Consolidated Rail Corporation.

Erie-Lackawanna was absorbed into the Consolidated Rail Corporation ( Conrail ) in 1976.

On June 23, 1997, CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern filed a joint application with the Surface Transportation Board for authority to purchase, divide and operate the assets of the 11, 000-mile Consolidated Rail Corporation ( Conrail ), which had been created in 1976 by bringing together several ailing Northeastern railway systems into a government-owned corporation.

Conrail ( or Consolidated Rail Corporation ) had been formed in 1976 through the merging of a number of financially troubled railroads, and operated commuter railroad service under contract from the NJDOT.

Congress passed the Regional Rail Reorganization Act of 1973 ( sometimes called the " 3R Act ") to salvage viable freight operations from the bankrupt Penn Central and other lines in the northeast, mid-Atlantic and midwestern regions, through the creation of the Consolidated Rail Corporation ( ConRail ), a government-owned corporation.

Therefore, it initially declined interest in joining the Consolidated Rail ( Conrail ) takeover of the other major bankrupt eastern lines.

On May 1, 1993 the Monongahela Railway was merged into the Consolidated Rail Corporation ( Conrail ), later to be bought by Norfolk Southern and CSX Transportation.

After itself going bankrupt in 1973 the Ann Arbor ceased operations as a railroad on April 1, 1976, when the Consolidated Rail Corporation ( Conrail ) temporarily took over.

At the time of NJT acquisition, freight service was operated by the Consolidated Rail Corporation.

It was renamed Sinclair after PARCO was acquired during the Great Depression by Sinclair Consolidated Oil Corporation.
