The Catholic Church plans to search for Cordero ’ s remains which were buried at the old city ’ s cemetery, although the exact location is unknown.

His family moved to San Juan when he was young, where he received his primary education as a student of the noted educator, Rafael Cordero.

In 1988, Cordero received the endorsement of then governor Rafael Hernández Colón for the office of Mayor of the city of Ponce and won the elections for the PPD by 1, 617 votes against his opponent Helcías Bermúdez of the New Progressive Party that same year.
