Scottish Borders Council is considering an application by a property developer to build a housing estate on the opposite bank of the River Tweed from Abbotsford, to which Historic Scotland and the National Trust for Scotland object.

The Council passes an annual budget for spending on areas such as housing, traffic management, refuse, drainage, and planning.

Although the London County Council had been created as a London-wide authority covering the County of London in 1889, the county did not cover all the built-up area of London, particularly West Ham and East Ham ; and many of the LCC housing projects, including the vast Becontree Estate, were outside its boundaries.

The Council supported the Free Clinic and organized housing, food, sanitation, music and arts, and coordination with local churches and other social groups.

These tax reductions required a saving of £ 2, 855 million, and this would be funded by eradicating losses in the nationalised industries and denationalising the profit-making state concerns ; ending all housing subsidies except for those who could not afford their own housing ; ending all foreign aid ; ending all grants and subsidies in agriculture ; ending all assistance to development areas ; ending all investment grants ; and abolishing the National Economic Development Council and the Prices and Incomes Board.

In 1926, Glasgow Corporation bought the Cardonald estates, They gave opportunity to private development replicating Kelvindale cottage flats By Western Heritable and Council housing in the area.

In the event, Council was persuaded to accept row housing, but it did so only on the condition that the houses were adequately sound-proofed, which turned out not to be the case.

Several acclaimed council housing estates were commissioned by Finsbury Borough Council.

From 1937 onwards, the London County Council built mass housing, sweeping away the worst of the slums, but also eliminating many older buildings containing shops on Homerton High Street, effectively destroying it as a commercial area.

In 1998, following ballots of the residents, Tower Hamlets Council transferred parts of the Lansbury estate and six other Council housing estates within Poplar to Poplar HARCA, a new housing association set up for the purpose of regenerating the area.

Official attempts to address the overcrowded housing began at the beginning of the 20th century under the London County Council.

Before the war a number of 1930s council housing blocks were added to the stock, but it was after the war, partly as result of bomb site redevelopment, that the council housing boom really got into its stride, reaching its peak in the 1960s with the construction of several extensive estates, both by the Metropolitan Borough of Islington and the London County Council.

As part of its obligation under the Mount Laurel doctrine, the Council on Affordable Housing requires Marlboro to provide 1, 673 low / moderate income housing units.

When the New Jersey Council on Affordable Housing requested plans to complete this obligation, Marlboro generated the largest number of objectors to an affordable housing plan in the history of New Jersey.

The Council recognized expert help was required to help shape what the town centre should look like over the next 10 – 15 years and how to make this happen.

Originally a group of teenage friends attending Sunnydale High in a town built on top of a Hellmouth, the group gradually expanded, eventually merging with the Watchers ' Council to become a global organization dealing with demonic threats worldwide and training thousands of Slayers.

Although traditions vary from town to town, some common characteristics of Dutch Carnival include a parade, a " prince " plus cortège (" Council of 11 "), a farmer's wedding ( boerenbruiloft ), and eating herring ( haring happen ) on Ash Wednesday.

For local elections to Louth County Council, the town forms part of two local electoral areas-Drogheda East ( 6 ) and Drogheda West ( 4 ).

Since 2009, Southwark London Borough Council has its main offices at 160 Tooley Street, having moved administrative staff from the town hall in Camberwell.

The administrative body for the town is the Stratford-upon-Avon Town Council, which is based at the Town Hall in Rother Street.

With a population of around 10, 000, Ludlow is the largest town in South Shropshire and home to the southern area committee of Shropshire Council.

The town also provided a winter home for local gentry, during which time they attended the Council court sessions.

After 1610, the cloth industry declined but the wealth of the town was little affected until about 1640, when the activities of the Council were suspended and the town's population promptly fell by 20 %.
