The Creston Branch of the Burlington Railroad was completed through Rosendale in 1869.

Weston is best known for its connection with novelist Nard Jones ( 1904 – 1972 ), who lived in the city with his parents between 1919 and 1927, and whose first novel Oregon Detour was set in an Oregon town of 600 inhabitants called " Creston ".

The first structure in town was a small store building moved to the site by Henry Verfurth from the nearby village of Sherman, 5 miles northwest of Creston.

In August 1902, the last surviving member of the infamous Hole in the Wall Gang, Harry Tracy, was shot at a Creston ranch and killed himself there to avoid capture.

Walter Cunningham was born in Creston, Iowa on March 16, 1932.

Three years later, he was the editor of the Creston Daily Plain Dealer in Iowa.

The first missionary to take up a permanent post in the Yaqan Nu ’ kiy territory, i. e. the Creston Band of Lower Kootenay, was Father Nicolas Coccola, who arrived in the Creston area in 1880.

While there was sometimes conflict between the Yaqan Nu ’ kiy and the local settler community at Creston, their relations are characterized much more by peaceful coexistence, and never reached the pitch of the relations between the surrounding European society and the Lower Kootenay in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, who officially declared war against the U. S. government in 1974 over land claims.

The conflict that there was between the Creston Band and the local settlers usually had its origin in land use.

He was educated at Crispus Attucks Elementary School in Kansas City, Missouri, then Creston High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Kaslo, on the shore of Kootenay Lake was served by steamers connecting with railways near Creston and Nelson, British Columbia.

The current form of the RYPs originated in 1987, when a pilot RYP was held in Creston, British Columbia for the Kootenay region.

First opened in 1964, the highway travels 14 km ( 9 mi ) northwest along the Kootenay River, from its connection with Idaho State Highway 1 at the Rykerts Canada-U. S. border crossing to a point on the Crowsnest Highway just 1 km ( about ½ mi ) west of Creston.

All these sites are within 50 km of Creston, with the exception of Blue Ridge, which is near the village of Kaslo, quite a distance north on the west side of Kootenay Lake.

The canal was part of a scheme by English / Austrian entrepreneur William Adolf Baillie Grohman in the 1880s to breach Canal Flats and divert water from the upper Kootenay River into the Columbia system, thereby sufficiently lowering the level of Kootenay Lake to reclaim the rich alluvial plain in the Creston area and open up a north-south navigational system from Golden to Montana.
