David Crockett was born in what is now Greene County, Tennessee, close to the Nolichucky River and near the community of Limestone.

On August 16, 1806, one day before his 20th birthday, Crockett married Mary ( Polly ) Finley in Jefferson County, Tennessee.

The Crockett Depot, built in 1909, has been restored and now serves as the Houston County Museum.

Ozona is served by the Crockett County Consolidated Common School District.

At the west edge of downtown, eastbound jogs one block east on Crockett Street and two blocks north on Common Street north to Texas Street ; westbound jogs one block south from Texas Street down Common to Texas Avenue.

Armstrong attended John Swett High School, also in Crockett, and later Pinole Valley High School in Pinole, California, but then dropped out to pursue his musical career.

Education in the city in secondary and primary education is almost entirely conducted by the Borger Independent School District, with 2, 800 students on six campuses ( Paul Belton Early Childhood Center, Crockett and Gateway Elementary, Borger Intermediate School, Borger Middle School, and Borger High School ).

Hodges Bend Middle School, located in the Four Corners CDP, serves almost all of the FBISD portion of the CDP, while Crockett Middle School, outside of the Mission Bend CDP, serves a small portion.

The jurisdiction of the Western District of Tennessee comprises the following counties: Benton, Carroll, Chester, Crockett, Decatur, Dyer, Fayette, Gibson, Hardeman, Hardin, Haywood, Henderson, Henry, Lake, Lauderdale, Madison, McNairy, Obion, Perry, Shelby, Tipton, and Weakley.

He represented Senate District 26, which currently included Chester, Crockett, Fayette, Hardeman, Hardin, Haywood, McNairy, and Wayne counties.

* 1836 – Texas Revolution: Battle of the Alamo – After a thirteen day siege by an army of 3, 000 Mexican troops, the 187 Texas volunteers, including frontiersman Davy Crockett and colonel Jim Bowie, defending the Alamo are killed and the fort is captured.

Made a scout because of his abilities as a hunter, trapper, and woodsman, Crockett is known to have supported the starving troops during the time of the Creek War with the game he hunted.

In an 1884 book written by dime novelist and non-fiction author Edward S. Ellis, Crockett is recorded as giving a speech ( the " Not Yours to Give " speech ) critical of his Congressional colleagues who were willing to spend taxpayer dollars to help a widow of a US Navy man who had lived beyond his naval service, but would not contribute their own salary for a week to the cause.

Crockett is on record opposing a similar bill and offering personal support to the family of a General Brown in April 1828, but Crockett considered applications for relief on a case by case basis and sometimes voted in favor of the applicant.

All that is certain about the fate of David Crockett is that he died fighting at the Alamo on the morning of March 6, 1836 at age 49.

It is believed that many stories, such as the surrender and execution of Crockett, were created and spread in order to discredit Santa Anna and add to his role as villain.

A county historical museum is located in a former railroad depot at 303 S. First Street in Crockett.
