For roughly 27 years, there were no other openly gay cast members on SNL, until Kate McKinnon ( a former cast member of Logo's The Big Gay Sketch Show ) was added to the cast in April 2012 ( becoming the second lesbian cast member on SNL after Danitra Vance and the first one to be open about her sexuality ).

Cleghorne is notable as being only the second African-American female repertory cast member of the sketch comedy show, succeeding Danitra Vance in its eleventh season.

Ironically, one of Danitra Vance's celebrity impersonations was of Cicely Tyson ( in The Pee Wee Herman Thanksgiving Special sketch ), who was known for not playing any role that stereotyped African-American women and, during her hosting stint on the fourth season ( 1978-1979 ), was shocked and disgusted that Garrett Morris was put in lesser roles on the show.
