Nashville is the capital of the U. S. state of Tennessee and the county seat of Davidson County.

The population of Davidson County as a whole, including all municipalities, was 626, 681.

In 1806, Nashville was incorporated as a city and became the county seat of Davidson County, Tennessee.

This is the case in the City and County of San Francisco, CA, and in the City and County of Philadelphia, PA. A similar arrangement is found in the " Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County " where the metropolis of Nashville has merged into the county of Davidson ( but, other than Nashville, a few municipalities-such as Belle Meade-still exist with some administrative functions ).

Rutherford County was formed in 1803 from parts of Davidson, Williamson and Wilson counties, and named in honor of Griffith Rutherford ( 1721 – 1805 ).

" Davidson explains that " whether this personification has originally been based on a belief in a goddess of death called Hel is another question ," but that she does not believe that the surviving sources give any reason to believe so.

" Davidson adds that " yet this is not the impression given in the account of Hermod's ride to Hel later in Gylfaginning ( 49 )" and points out that here Hel " with authority as ruler of the underworld " and that from her realm " gifts are sent back to Frigg and Fulla by Balder's wife Nanna as from a friendly kingdom.

Davidson further compares to early attestations of the Irish goddesses Badb ( Davidson points to the description of Badb from The Destruction of Da Choca's Hostel where Badb is wearing a dusky mantle, has a large mouth, is dark in color, and has gray hair falling over her shoulders, or, alternatively, " as a red figure on the edge of the ford, washing the chariot of a king doomed to die ") and The Morrígan.

Davidson concludes that, in these examples, " here we have the fierce destructive side of death, with a strong emphasis on its physical horrors, so perhaps we should not assume that the gruesome figure of Hel is wholly Snorri's literary invention.

Donald Davidson is not usually considered a postmodernist, although he and Rorty have both acknowledged that there are few differences between their philosophies.

Davidson adds that the representation of Odin's steed as eight-legged could arise naturally out of such an image, and that " this is in accordance with the picture of Sleipnir as a horse that could bear its rider to the land of the dead.

" This view reflects the position of the later Wittgenstein and his famous game example, and is related to the positions of Quine, Davidson, and others.

Pioneered by the philosopher Donald Davidson, another formalized theory, which aims to associate each natural language sentence with a meta-language description of the conditions under which it is true, for example: ` Snow is white ' is true if and only if snow is white.

Richard Harmon " Dick " Fulton ( born January 27, 1927 ) was a Democratic politician who served as a member of the Tennessee State Senate and of the United States House of Representatives, and the second mayor of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.

He also served on the board of directors for UPS, Visteon Corporation, Kaydon Corporation and the Bank of Ann Arbor, as well as the University of Michigan Business School ’ s William Davidson Institute and the Fair Lane Learning Institute.

He served as a professor of mathematics at Franklin College in Davidson County, Tennessee from 1845 to 1849.
