Jan and Dean were a rock and roll duo, popular from the late 1950s through the mid 1960s, consisting of Jan Berry and Dean Torrence.

After Torrence returned from a six-month compulsory stint in the US Army Reserve, Berry and Torrence began to make music as " Jan and Dean.

The biopic starred Richard Hatch as Jan Berry and Bruce Davison as Dean Torrence, with cameo appearances by Dick Clark, Wolfman Jack, Mike Love of the Beach Boys, and Bruce Johnston ( who at that time was temporarily out of the Beach Boys ), as well as Berry himself ( near the end of the movie, he can be seen sitting in the audience, watching " himself " ( Richard Hatch ) perform onstage ).

Interestingly, in 1979, Jan also performed over 100 concerts of Jan and Dean songs with another front man from Hawaii, Randy Ruff, so Torrence toured briefly as " Mike & Dean ," with Mike Love of the Beach Boys.

In " Phase II " of their career, Dean Torrence led the touring operation.

Between the 1970s and 1990s, Torrence issued a number of re-recordings of classic Jan and Dean hits.

Celebrities attending the event included Dean Torrence, Lou Adler, Jill Gibson, and Nancy Sinatra.

In an interview conducted by Jan & Dean fan and historian David Beard for the Collectors ' Choice release, Jan & Dean The Complete Liberty Singles, Dean Torrence stated that he felt the duo should be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame: " We have the scoreboard if you just want to compare number of hits and musical projects done.

The Los Angeles Opera's February 2007 production directed by John Doyle and conducted by James Conlon included Audra McDonald as Jenny, Patti LuPone as Begbick, and Anthony Dean Griffey as Jimmy.

Dean ( August 16, 1926 – February 24, 1997 ) and Florine " Kay " Plato ( December 27, 1938 – January 2, 1988 ) adopted the child in June 1965 and raised her in the San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles County.

Kazan had seen Dean on stage in New York and after an audition gave him the starring role along with an exclusive contract with Warner Bros. Dean flew back to Los Angeles with Kazan in 1954, the first time he had ever flown in a plane, bringing his clothes in a brown paper bag.

James Dean died the following year, at the age of 24, in an accident with his sports car outside of Los Angeles.

The film Swingers was set during the late 1990s lounge and swing revival in Los Angeles, and featured legendary performers like Dean Martin, Louis Jordan and Tony Bennett, as well as modern lounge acts like Love Jones, Joey Altruda and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.

Todd Nichols has since ended Lapdog and is focusing on writing songs in Nashville for country acts along with Toad bandmate Dean Dinning, and producing bands at his studio Abe's in Los Angeles.

After a month in Los Angeles with no results, the band opted to return to the UK, where they rented Clearwell Castle in The Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, England.
