No political parties or national elections are permitted and according to The Economist's 2010 Democracy Index, the Saudi government is the seventh most authoritarian regime from among the 167 countries rated.

The 2011 Democracy Index marked Tanzania as a " hybrid regime ", ranking it 90th out of 167, an improvement from 92nd the year before.

According to the Economist Intelligence Unit in 2008, Uruguay scored an 8. 08 in the Democracy Index and ranked 23rd amongst the 30 countries considered to be Full Democracies in the world.

The Economist's 2008 Democracy Index ranks Tunisia 141 out of 167 studied countries and 143 out of 173 regarding freedom of the press.

Cuba is the only " authoritarian regime " in the Americas, according to the 2010 Democracy Index.

In The Economists 2010 Democracy Index, Tunisia was classified as an authoritarian regime, ranking 144th out of 167 countries studied.

Examples of country-led assessments include the Indonesian Democracy Index, monitoring of the Millennium Development Goal 9 on Human Rights and Democratic Governance in Mongolia and the Gross National Happiness Index in Bhutan.

Although South Africa's democracy is rated as flawed in the Democracy Index survey conducted by the Economist, its score for electoral process is the same as that of the United States and Japan.

In 2010, Cuba was deemed the only " authoritarian regime " in the Americas by The Economists 2010 Democracy Index.

The following lists Muslim-majority countries and shows the scores given by two frequently used indices: Freedom in the World ( 2012 ) by the US-based Freedom House and the 2011 Democracy Index by the Economist Intelligence Unit.

According to the " Democracy Index " ( published by the Economist, a British journal ), the country in the Middle East with the highest Democracy Index score is Israel, with a score of 7. 53, corresponding to the status of " flawed democracy "; the only one in the region.

National Alliance, launched in 1994, was officially founded in January 1995, when the Italian Social Movement ( MSI ), the former neo-fascist party, merged with conservative elements of the former Christian Democracy, which had disbanded in 1994 after two years of scandals and various splits due to corruption at its highest levels, exposed by the Mani Pulite investigation, and the Italian Liberal Party, disbanded in the same year.

Since October 1998, Chadian Movement for Justice and Democracy ( MDJT ) rebels, led by Youssuf Togoimi until his death in September 2002, have skirmished with government troops in the Tibesti region, resulting in hundreds of civilian, government, and rebel casualties, but little ground won or lost.
