Desi Arnaz ( March 2, 1917 – December 2, 1986 ) was a Cuban-born American musician, actor and television producer.

While he gained international renown for leading a Latin music band, the Desi Arnaz Orchestra, he is best known for his role as Ricky Ricardo on the American TV series I Love Lucy, starring with Lucille Ball, to whom he was married at the time.

Desi Arnaz was born Desiderio Alberto Arnaz y de Acha III in Santiago de Cuba to Desiderio Alberto Arnaz II ( March 8, 1894-May 31, 1973 ) and his wife Dolores de Acha ( April 2, 1896-October 24, 1988 ).

When he moved to the United States, Desi Arnaz turned to show business to support himself.

When Ball sold her share of Desilu to what became Paramount Television, Arnaz went on to form his own production company from the ashes of his share of Desilu, and with the newly formed Desi Arnaz Productions, he made The Mothers-In-Law ( at Desilu ) for United Artists Television and NBC, this ran for two seasons from 1967-68.

Arnaz and Ball's marriage ( 1940 ) was turbulent, and convinced that Arnaz was being unfaithful to her, and also because Desi came home drunk several times, Ball filed for divorce in September 1944, but returned to him before the interlocutory decree became final.

He and Ball are the parents of actress Lucie Arnaz ( born 1951 ) and actor Desi Arnaz, Jr. ( born 1953 ).

To promote his autobiography, A Book, on February 21, 1976, Arnaz served as a guest host on Saturday Night Live, with his son, Desi, Jr., also appearing.

Arnaz, Jr. played the drums and, supported by the SNL band, Desi sang both " Babalu " and another favorite from his dance band days, " Cuban Pete "; the arrangements were similar to the ones used on I Love Lucy.

Desi Arnaz has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame: one at 6327 Hollywood Boulevard for contributions to motion pictures, and one at 6220 Hollywood Boulevard for television.

There is a Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Center museum in Jamestown, New York ( birthplace of Lucille Ball ) and a Desi Arnaz Bandshell in Lucille Ball Memorial Park in Celoron, New York ( childhood home of Lucille Ball ).

Nevertheless, they found instant appeal with teenagers and young adults who were engrossed in the swing and jazz idioms, especially when they performed with nearly all of the major big bands, including those led by Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Buddy Rich, Tommy Dorsey, Jimmy Dorsey, Gene Krupa, Joe Venuti, Freddie Slack, Eddie Heywood, Bob Crosby ( Bing's brother ), Desi Arnaz, Guy Lombardo, Les Brown, Bunny Berigan, Xavier Cugat, Paul Whiteman, Ted Lewis, Nelson Riddle and mood-master Gordon Jenkins, whose orchestra and chorus accompanied them on such successful soft and melancholy renditions as " I Can Dream, Can't I?

Marion Hutton appeared with the Desi Arnaz orchestra in October 1947 at the Radio City Theatre in Minneapolis.

Desilu Productions, jointly owned by Desi Arnaz and Ball during their marriage, was the production company for the Our Miss Brooks television show, which filmed during the same years as I Love Lucy.

She later co-starred with Kaye Ballard as her neighbor and in-law, Eve Hubbard, in the 1967 – 69 situation comedy The Mothers-in-Law, which was produced by Desi Arnaz after the dissolution of Desilu.

In addition to guest spots on several television series during the early 1990s, Benard also appeared in television movies including the 1991 CBS television movie Lucy & Desi: Before the Laughter, in which he portrayed Desi Arnaz.

Richard Denning ( March 27, 1914 – October 11, 1998 ), was an American actor who starred in such movies as Creature from the Black Lagoon ( 1954 ) and An Affair to Remember ( 1957 ), and on radio with Lucille Ball as her husband George Cooper in My Favorite Husband ( 1948 – 1951 ), the forerunner of television's I Love Lucy, for which Denning was replaced by Ball's real-life husband, Desi Arnaz.

Desi was survived by his children and his mother, Dolores, who died in 1988 at the age of 92.

He received Roman Catholic funeral rites four days later, with fellow entertainers including Desi Arnaz, Ernest Borgnine, Marty Allen, and Jack Carter in attendance, and was interred at Holy Cross Cemetery, Culver City.

Reportedly he was forced out of his car near Fort Zeelandia and shot in the head, with his body left outside the office of Desi Bouterse.

At the time, it was reported that Desi Arnaz, Jr. was his biological father.
