Diageo has completed construction of a new distillery on a 26 acre industrial site next to the Hovensa Refinery.

However the owner of Johnnie Walker, Diageo, has announced that they will be closing the bottling plant in the town by the end of 2011, thus ending a 189 year link with the whisky brand and the town.
