In some European countries, a magister is a first degree and may be considered equivalent to a modern ( standardized ) master's degree ( e. g., the German and Austrian university Diplom / Magister, or the similar 5-year Diploma awarded in several subjects in Greek, Spanish, Polish, Portuguese, and other universities and polytechnics ).

Mid Sweden University also offers professional degrees within Master of Science and Engineering ( civilingenjörsexamen, similar to German Diploma engineer ) since 2003, and as engineer, teacher, nurse, specialist nurse, social worker / welfare officer ( socionom ), journalist and, from 2008, Psychologist.

The English Schools Foundation in Hong Kong runs schools that follow the British patterned education, and students take GCSE in Years 10 – 11 and AS / A Level exams in Years 12 – 13, although the schools are transitioning to the IB Diploma.

Teachers can enter students for examinations following their Associate examination and once they have obtained their Associate Diploma can then choose to progress to Licentiate and Fellowship.

Students who complete the Associate in Arts or Associate in Science Core Diploma before transferring to the UNC System will have satisfied the general education requirements of the transfer institution.

A Graduation ceremony takes place each October with awards of Certificate, Diploma and Degrees being awarded.
