The films also portray Donatello as being close with Michelangelo, bantering with him during fight sequences, going off to the side when Leo and Raph are arguing and in general hanging out in their spare time.
Although a well-trained ninja, Michelangelo is primarily a social being and lacks the discipline of Leonardo, the relentless ferocity of Raphael, and the quick mind of Donatello.
It is interesting to note that Michelangelo is the only Turtle who did not end up disfigured in some way in this series ; Leonardo lost his left hand and had it replaced by a steel cap with a retractable blade, Raphael was facially disfigured after being shot in the face, and Donatello was transformed into a cyborg after being shot and thrown out of a helicopter.
During one of these anti-drug PSAs, Michelangelo suggests to a kid being tempted with marijuana that he should " get a pizza " to go with it, before the idea is shot down by Donatello.

Donatello was asked to make some adjustments to the statue ( perhaps to make him look less like a prophet ), and a pedestal with an inscription was made for it: PRO PATRIA FORTITER DIMICANTIBUS ETIAM ADVERSUS TERRIBILISSIMOS HOSTES DII PRAESTANT AUXILIUM ( To those who fight bravely for the fatherland the gods lend aid even against the most terrible foes ).
Most scholars assume the statue was commissioned by Cosimo de ' Medici, but the date of its creation is unknown and widely disputed ; suggested dates vary from the 1420s to the 1460s ( Donatello died in 1466 ), with the majority opinion recently falling in the 1440s, when the new Medici Palace designed by Michelozzo was under construction.
One has been to suggest that Donatello was homosexual and that he was expressing that sexual attitude through this statue.
What is certain in this statue is that Donatello has not followed any traditions, and the representation is far from bland.
After the Romans, no surviving monumental equestrian bronze was cast in Europe until Donatello achieved the heroic bronze equestrian statue of the condottiere Gattamelata, in Padua, executed in 1445 – 1450.

A statue by Donatello and a portrait by Antonio del Pollaiuolo remain to commemorate a citizen who chiefly for his services to humanistic literature deserved the notice of posterity.
