In the early-to-mid-1930s, Miller also worked as a trombonist and arranger in The Dorsey Brothers, first when they were a Brunswick studio group ( under their own name and providing accompaniment for many of The Boswell Sisters sessions ), and finally when they formed an ill-fated co-led touring and recording orchestra.

Miller composed the song " Annie's Cousin Fanny " and " Dese Dem Dose " for the Dorsey Brothers Band in 1934 and 1935.

It also had the big bands play at the time, The Dorsey Brothers and Frank Sinatra played bocce ball and performed there.

Subsequently, Presley and his band performed " Heartbreak Hotel " with borrowed instruments ( their own were being driven to Florida in preparation for a tour ) with the backing of The Dorsey Brothers orchestra.

On September 9, 1956, Presley made his first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show ( after earlier appearances on shows hosted by the Dorsey Brothers, Milton Berle, and Steve Allen ) even though Sullivan had previously vowed never to allow Presley on the show.

The biographical film of 1947, The Fabulous Dorseys describes sketchy details of how the brothers got their start from-the-bottom-up into the jazz era of one-nighters, the early days of radio in its infancy stages, and the onward march when both brothers ended up with Paul Whiteman before 1935 when The Dorsey Brothers ' Orchestra split into two.

He had two more number one hits in 1935 when he was a member of the Dorsey Brothers Orchestra: " Lullaby of Broadway ", number one for two weeks, and " Chasing Shadows ", number one for three weeks.

After returning to the United States, he worked briefly with Rudy Vallee and several other bandleaders, in addition to the Dorsey Brothers Orchestra with Tommy.

The Dorsey Brothers Orchestra became the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, and included musicians such as Bobby Byrne, Ray McKinley, and Skeets Herfurt along with vocalists Bob Eberly and Kay Weber.

" Stardust " ( the song's original title was " Star Dust ", which has long been compounded into " Stardust ") was written at the Keuka Hotel on Keuka Lake, a Finger Lake in Western New York, on an old upright piano, and first recorded in Richmond, Indiana, for Gennett Records ( Gennett 6311 ) by Carmichael, with Emil Seidel and his Orchestra and the Dorsey brothers as " Hoagy Carmichael and His Pals ," on October 31, 1927, as a peppy ( but mid-tempo ) jazz instrumental.
