The worldwide success of Eddy's " twangy " instrumental records, television appearances, and extensive touring helped expose the Gretsch guitar to the teenage rock and roll market.

Previously, the Rivingtons had been known as the Sharps, and they had already had success in the charts with Thurston Harris's " Little Bitty Pretty One " in 1957, after which they appeared on several Duane Eddy recordings when any extraneous sounds of rebel yells were required, as on Eddy's 1958 hit " Rebel Rouser.

There were three film sets on which they battled off-screen: the second half of Rose Marie, after MacDonald's refusal to elope to Reno with Eddy ; The Girl of the Golden West, filmed immediately after MacDonald's marriage ; and New Moon, filmed after Eddy's marriage.

Many of Eddy's personal letters and diary entries indicating a rocky romance with MacDonald were reproduced in Sweethearts.

Found in the Supplement section are "... the hymns " I need Thee every hour ," " I'm a pilgrim and I'm a stranger ," and " Eternity ," which were originally included in the Hymnal in accordance with Eddy's wish.

Although the plot was changed, and most of the songs were dropped, it was a huge success and became MacDonald and Eddy's best-known film.

On Decca's British London label, which began in 1949, HL was at first used alone, but from 1957 there was usually a following letter denoting the original American label ; thus Atlantic and Atco were HLE, changing in 1960 to HLK, Sun Records was HLS, Jamie ( Duane Eddy's label ) was HLW, and Big Top Records ( Del Shannon, Johnny and the Hurricanes ) was HLX ; while HLU was used for a number of labels including Phil Spector's Philles, and Monument, home to Roy Orbison.

These men, numbering about 30, were taken prisoner by Eddy's men as rapidly as they arrived due to their unawareness that Eddy had control of the ship.

They were in a dogfight in the Lake Garda area when Visconti's plane was hit and disabled by Eddy in a frontal attack, Visconti parachuted out at a very low altitude and survived his moderate wounds, while Eddy's P-47 came back safely to his Pisa airbase.

Eddy's biggest hit came with the theme to the movie Because They're Young in 1960, which featured a string arrangement, and reached a chart peak of # 4 in America and # 2 in the UK in September 1960.

Previously, only three other rock guitar instrumentals had cracked Billboard's top 5, The Virtues ' " Guitar Boogie Shuffle " in 1959, and Duane Eddy's " Because They're Young " and The Ventures ' " Walk, Don't Run ", in 1960.

In 1921, on the 100th anniversary of Eddy's birth, a 100-ton ( in rough ) and 60 – 70 tons ( hewn ), eleven-foot square granite pyramid was dedicated on the site of her birthplace in Bow, New Hampshire.

Joseph DesBarre's chart of New York harbor in the 1779 work Atlantic Neptune, and John Eddy's map of 1811, both use the modern spelling.

New Thought was further developed by William James and Henry David Thoreau who questioned the science behind Quimby and Eddy's theories but agreed with New Thought's focus on agency and reason as methods to perceive and experience a more fulfilling life.

In addition, Joseph Pulitzer's New York World was consistently critical of Eddy, and — according to many historians — this, along with a derogatory article in McClure's, furthered Eddy's decision to found her own media outlet.

Bliss Knapp's first lecture was given in White Mountains, New Hampshire, and was introduced by one of Mrs. Eddy's students, Miss Emma C. Shipman with whom only a few decades before, as a child, he had enjoyed an entertaining pillow fight.

The New Thought concept was named by Emma Curtis Hopkins (" teacher of teachers ") after Hopkins broke off from Mary Baker Eddy's Church of Christ, Scientist the movement had been previously known as the Mental Sciences.

The New York Times wrote that the film " the most entrancing operetta the screen has given us .... t affirms Nelson Eddy's preeminence among the baritones of filmdom ".

* New Moon, 1940, based on Sigmund Romberg's 1927 Broadway hit, became one of Eddy's most popular films, although in 1978 it was included in the book The Fifty Worst Films of All Time.

Baptist evangelist Justin Peters, an outspoken critic of the Word of Faith movement who wrote his Master of Divinity thesis on Benny Hinn and has appeared frequently as an expert on Word of Faith pastors in documentaries and TV news stories, traces the movement's origins to the late 19th and early 20th centuries ( Phineus Quimby's New Thought Movement, Mary Baker Eddy's Christian Science ) in his seminar " A Call for Discernment ".

It is built of granite from New Hampshire, Mary Baker Eddy's home state.

The prince's daughter is taken to Annie Crook's parents by the painter Walter Sickert, a friend of Eddy's who had accompanied him on his trips to the East End.

After Renee leaves, Fred breaks into Mr. Eddy's room, grabs him and takes him away in his Mercedes to the desert, where Fred beats him up.

The Christian Science Board of Directors wrote him a six-page letter in February 1948 politely explaining numerous points they regarded as at erroneous variance from Eddy's teaching.

Eddy's parents divorced when he was 14, which severely traumatized him.

Alexander Smallens, musical director of the Philadelphia Civic Opera and later assistant conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra, became interested in Eddy's career and coached him.

In the early 1930s, Eddy's principal teacher was Edouard Lippé, who followed him to Hollywood and appeared in a small role in Eddy's 1935 film Naughty Marietta.

Infuriated upon receiving detention at Halloween, Eddy's spirits are uplifted at the recollection of the map given to him by his brother that apparently leads to a location known as Spook-E-Ville, where the Eds are more likely to receive more candy.

In the meantime, Edd and Eddy attempt to track down Spook-E-Ville, oblivious to the reason for their friend's violent lashes at their peers, albeit by the end of the night it is realized that the entire concept of Spook-E-Ville was just a prank Eddy's brother had devised to deceive him and that the map leads him back to his own house, and Ed insists upon tossing his friends into a pit in an attempt to seek refuge from the supposed monsters.

Batt's men chased Eddy's, but bad weather and the lack of adequate footwear eventually caused him to call off the pursuit.

In Eddy's Message to The Mother Church for 1901, in the section titled " Christ Is One and Divine ", she writes:

Composer Sigmund Romberg's 1927 Broadway hit provided the plot and the songs: " Lover, Come Back to Me ", " One Kiss ", and " Wanting You ", plus Eddy's version of " Stout Hearted Men ".

One of Eddy's Maliseet warriors snuck into the fort and very nearly opened a gate but was stopped at the last moment.

This statement reflects Mrs. Eddy's doctrine regarding the uniqueness, unity, and individuality of Christ Jesus ' eternal, spiritual identity.

While Eddy's Manual established limited executive functions under the rule of law in place of a traditional hierarchy, the controversial 1991 publication of a book by Bliss Knapp led the then Board of Directors to make the unusual affidavit during a suit over Knapp's estate that neither acts by it violating the Manual, nor acts refraining from required action, constituted violations of the Manual.

Historically, the church had censured Knapp for deviating at several points from Eddy's teaching, and had refused to publish the work.

These critics state that Mary Baker Eddy's interpretation of Christian scripture diverges too greatly from basic tenets of Christianity.

These included Eddy's tail-less diamond kite, the tetrahedral kite, the flexible kite, the sled kite, and the parafoil kite, which helped to develop the modern hang-gliders.

The potentially scandalous matter is resolved, until a group of prostitutes — Annie's friends — who are aware of the illegitimate child and its royal connections, attempt to blackmail Walter Sickert, Prince Eddy's friend, in order to pay off a gang of thugs who are threatening them.

Their lifestyle inevitably leads to a variety of personal crises, which are invariably resolved by Eddy's daughter, Saffron Monsoon ( Julia Sawalha ), who has become bitter and cynical.

In a book entitled Christian Science, Mark Twain challenged Eddy's authorship of Science and Health.

The first edition was copyrighted in 1875 ( Eddy, 1934: p. ii ) and went through more than four hundred revisions ( Brosang, 1990: p. 6 ) before Eddy's death in 1910.

The second section, " Key to the Scriptures ", examines parts of Genesis and Revelation and provides a Glossary of Eddy's metaphysical interpretations of commonly-used terms from the Bible.

The impartial student may see Quimby as a precursor in the theory and practice of Christian Science, though Eddy's relationship with Quimby was a subject of controversy even within her own lifetime.

These students spread across the country practicing healing, and instructing others, in accordance with Eddy's teachings.

Eddy's use of these terms and her teaching are considered by both her defenders and Quimby's family to be distinct from Quimbyism.

Also demolished was Eddy's former home in Pleasant View, as the board feared that it was becoming a place of pilgrimage.

She also uncovered materials that demonstrated that Dresser intentionally left out all manuscripts that would have demonstrated the independence of Eddy's ideas from Quimby's.
