* 1982 – Richard Skrenta writes the first PC virus code, which is 400 lines long and disguised as an Apple boot program called " Elk Cloner ".

* A program called Elk Cloner, written for Apple II systems and created by Richard Skrenta.

Elk Cloner's design combined with public ignorance about what malware was and how to protect against it led to Elk Cloner being responsible for the first large-scale computer virus outbreak in history.

Lebanon High School, Skrenta wrote the Elk Cloner virus that infected Apple II machines.

Elk Cloner is one of the first known microcomputer viruses that spread " in the wild ," i. e., outside the computer system or lab in which it was written.

When an uninfected disk was inserted into the computer, Elk Cloner would be copied to the disk, allowing it to spread from disk to disk.

Elk Cloner did not cause deliberate harm, but Apple DOS disks without a standard image had their reserved tracks overwritten.

Elk Cloner was created as a prank in 1981 by Rich Skrenta, a 15-year-old high school student.

* First computer virus, the Elk Cloner, written by 15-year old Rich Skrenta, escapes into the wild.

Several mammal species originated in the Palearctic, and spread to the Nearctic during the ice ages, including the Brown Bear ( Ursus arctos, known in North America as the Grizzly ), Red Deer ( Cervus elaphus ) in Europe and the closely related Elk ( Cervus canadensis ) in far eastern Siberia, American Bison ( Bison bison ), and Reindeer ( Rangifer tarandus, known in North America as the Caribou ).

To wit, removal of protection in 1935 ; the crossbreeding with Red Deer that spread into the area ; the gazetting of the Fiordland region as a National park in 1952 ; and the resulting status of the Elk and all introduced game species being relegated to that of noxious animals, or pests, by the government agencies of the time ; has seen the wild herd go into decline.

Their tribal territory stretched from what is now Yellowstone National Park and the headwaters of the Yellowstone River ( E-chee-dick-karsh-ah-shay —" Elk River ") in the west, north to the Musselshell River, then northeast to the Yellowstone's mouth at the Missouri River, then southeast to the confluence of the Yellowstone and Powder Rivers ( Bilap chashee —" Powder River " or " Ash River "), south along the South Fork of the Powder River, confined in the SE by the Rattlesnake Mountains and westwards in the SW by the Wind River Range.
