Elliot, a researcher in the Institute for Software at the University of California Irvine, not only outlines many benefits that could come from a free software movement, she claims that it is inherently necessary to give every person equal opportunity to utilize the internet, assuming that the computer is globally accessible.

These elements were played up in various stories throughout the 1970s and 1980s, particularly in Elliot S. Maggin's novel Last Son of Krypton.

* January 8 – Operation Auca: Five U. S. missionaries Nate Saint, Roger Youderian, Ed McCully, Jim Elliot and Pete Fleming are killed for tresspassing by the Waodani of Ecuador shortly after making contact with them.

President Garfield appointed several African-Americans to prominent positions: Frederick Douglas, recorder of deeds in Washington ; Robert Elliot, special agent to the U. S. Treasury ; John M. Langston, Haitian minister ; and Blanche K. Bruce, register to the U. S. Treasury.

His approach to the problem resulted from collaboration also with individuals at Bell Labs including Alfred Aho, Elliot Pinson, Jeffrey Ullman, and Harold S. Stone.

In terms of media, Smallville has had several newspapers mentioned over the years, including the Smallville Sentinel ( shown in various stories in The New Adventures of Superboy ) and the Smallville Times-Reader ( in Elliot S. Maggin's " Last Son of Krypton " text novel ).

* Superman writer Elliot S. Maggin incorporated the Kansas location into the DC Universe in his 1981 Superman novel, Miracle Monday.

Cox's appointment was a key condition set by the leadership of the U. S. Senate for the confirmation of Elliot Richardson as the new attorney general of the United States, succeeding Richard G. Kleindienst, who had resigned during the spring of 1973, as a result of the Watergate scandal.

His younger brother Elliot Caplin also became a comic strip creator, best known for co-creating the soap opera strip The Heart of Juliet Jones with artist Stan Drake, and conceiving the comic strip character Broom-Hilda with cartoonist Russell Myers.

Elliot also authored several off-Broadway plays, including A Nickel for Picasso ( 1981 ), which was based on and dedicated to his mother and his famous brother.

According to one anecdote ( from Al Capp Remembered, 1994 ), Capp and his brother Elliot ducked out of a dull party at Capp's home — leaving Walt Kelly alone to fend for himself entertaining a group of Argentine envoys who didn't speak English.

Cartoonist Mell Lazarus, creator of Miss Peach and Momma, wrote a comic novel in 1963 titled The Boss Is Crazy, Too which was partly inspired by his apprenticeship days working with Capp and his brother Elliot at Toby.
