Zafar was the son of Akbar Shah II and Lalbai, who was a Hindu Rajput, and became Mughal Emperor when his father died on 28 September 1837.

Seeking a figure that could unite all Indians, Hindu and Muslim alike, most rebelling Indian kings and the Indian regiments accepted Zafar as the Emperor of India., under whom the smaller Indian kingdoms would unite until the British were defeated.

The last Emperor, Bahadur Shah Zafar is buried in Burma.

In 1842, Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar II revived upon Syed Ahmad Khan the title of Javad-ud Daulah, conferred upon Syed Ahmad ’ s grandfather Syed Hadi by Emperor Shah Alam II in about the middle of the 18th century.

Many princes settled in various provinces of India, but some settled in Burma and Bengal since a large number of imperial family members, along with Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar were exiled to Rangoon in Burma.

Bahadur Shah Zafar was proclaimed the Emperor of the whole of India.

The last Emperor to use the title was Bahadur Shah Zafar, who was styled Badshah-e-Hind ( Emperor of India ).

Last Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar was exiled to Rangoon in Burma.
