Erasmus Darwin ( 12 December 1731 – 18 April 1802 ) was an English physician who turned down George III's invitation to be a physician to the King.

Erasmus Darwin House, his home in Lichfield, is now a museum dedicated to Erasmus Darwin and his life's work.

A school in nearby Chasetown recently converted to Academy status and is now known as Erasmus Darwin Academy.

Erasmus was one of the scholars learned in Greek that the Aldine Press employed.

Johann Froben also operated his printing house in Basel and was notable for publishing works by Erasmus.

In 1965 he received a joint Erasmus Prize with film director Ingmar Bergman and in 1971 he was made a Commander of the national order of the Legion of Honor by the French Minister of Culture Jacques Duhamel at the Cannes Film Festival.

She was also a patron of Renaissance humanism, and a friend of the great scholars Erasmus of Rotterdam and Saint Thomas More.

Erasmus was a classical scholar who wrote in a pure Latin style.
