The result of the game was surprising to many in the sports media as Joe Namath and Matt Snell led Jets to the Super Bowl victory, under head coach Weeb Ewbank, who won two NFL Championships with the Colts.

Weeb Ewbank, head coach of the Baltimore Colts in that game, was also scheduled to appear, but died November 17, 1998.

The Ewbank system, used in Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, was developed in the mid 1960s by John Ewbank.

It was also Werblin who signed for his Jets, the team he named and colored, football talent scout and coach Wilbur ' Weeb ' Ewbank.

Wilbur " Weeb " Ewbank ( May 6, 1907 – November 17, 1998 ) was an American professional football coach.

Ewbank was born in Richmond, Indiana, and lived there through high school.

During World War II Ewbank joined the Navy and was assigned to Naval Station Great Lakes, where he was reunited with his Miami teammate Paul Brown who was the base football coach.

Ewbank also was the J. V.

By the end of the 1962 NFL season, Rosenbloom thought that the Colts had slipped and Ewbank was fired.

Ewbank was selected as the Head Coach of the AFL All-Time Team.

After Ewbank left the Baltimore Colts to coach the New York Jets in 1963, Shula was hired by Colts ' owner Carroll Rosenbloom to coach Baltimore.

A quarterback and placekicker, he played college football for Utah State University and was signed as a free agent in 1964 by the American Football League's New York Jets head coach Weeb Ewbank.

He finished his Miami career with an overall record of 46 – 80 (. 365 ), leaving Oxford after the 1937 – 1938 season, and was replaced by Weeb Ewbank.

On May 8, 1963, he was hired as offensive line coach of the American Football League's New York Jets by head coach Weeb Ewbank.

However, under head coach Weeb Ewbank and the leadership of quarterback Johnny Unitas, the Colts would go onto a 9 – 3 record during the 1958 season and reached the NFL Championship Game for the first time in their history by winning the NFL Western Conference.

Following the two championships in 1958 and 1959, the Colts did not return to the NFL Championship for four seasons and saw a transition from head coach Ewbank to a young Don Shula in 1963.

Renamed the Jets, the new owners hired Weeb Ewbank as the general manager and head coach.

After the 1972 season, Ewbank announced that at the end of the 1973 season he would retire as head coach in favor of his son-in-law, Charley Winner, though he would continue as general manager.

In 1939, Ewbank agreed to coach both the McGuffey High School and the Miami University basketball team when Miami ’ s basketball coach left for another job.

Ewbank joined the Colts at the recommendation of Cleveland Browns coach Paul Brown.

As coach of the Colts, Ewbank won the 1958 and 1959 NFL championships.

Ewbank is the only man ever to coach two different American pro football teams to victory in a championship game, and the only man to coach winners of NFL, AFL, and a Super Bowl Championships: ( NFL championships in 1958 and 1959 with the Colts, an AFL championship in 1968 with the Jets, and a Super Bowl Championship in Super Bowl III in 1969 with the Jets ).

After his freshman year, he transferred to Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he followed Weeb Ewbank as the school's starting quarterback.

Ewbank and quarterback Joe Namath led the Jets to prominence in 1969 when New York defeated the heavily-favored Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III and solidified the AFL's position in the world of professional football.

The Baltimore Colts had won the 1958 and 1959 NFL championships under Coach Weeb Ewbank.

In the following years, however, the Colts failed to make the playoffs, and the Colts dismissed Ewbank after a 7 – 7 1962 season.

In 1965 he completed his PhD thesis " Neolithic and Bronze Age cultures of the Cyclades and their external relations " and in the same year married Jane M. Ewbank.

Ewbank also developed an open ended “ M ” system for aid climbing.

The numerical Ewbank system is open-ended, starting from 1, which you can ( at least in theory ) walk up, to the four climbs located in Australia given the hardest currently confirmed grade of 34.

The Ewbank system is not intended to simply grade the hardest individual move on a climb though the grading system is often described this way.

Ewbank explained " Grading takes the following into consideration: Technical difficulty, exposure, length, quality of rock, protection and other smaller factors.
