GBH were early pioneers of English street punk, often nicknamed " UK82 ", along with Discharge, Broken Bones, The Exploited and The Varukers.

Their growing profile was confirmed when a third single, " Six Guns ", appeared at the end of the year and reached number 1 in the UK Indie Chart, as did the successful joint venture with The Exploited on a 12 " single EP, " Don't Let ' Em Grind You Down " which featured tracks " Ain't Got Me " & " Another Dead Soldier ", both were recorded as part of The Wragby Studio Session Tapes in 1980.

The city has produced or been home to musicians that have been extremely successful in modern times, particularly Ian Anderson, frontman of the band Jethro Tull ; Wattie Buchan, lead singer and founding member of punk band The Exploited ; Shirley Manson, lead singer for the band Garbage ; The Proclaimers ; the Bay City Rollers ; Boards of Canada and Idlewild.
