The funicular connects at the bottom with metropolitan railways ( FGC, to reach the city center of Barcelona, via the Terrassa / Sabadell train lines ), and at the top it can be combined with a minibus ( line 111 ) to reach the top of the Tibidabo hill.

The second oldest line the Línia Llobregat-Anoia was opened in 1892 as an interurban tram using metre gauge tracks, which was taken over by the Companyia General dels Ferrocarrils Catalans ( CGFC ) in 1912 and transformed it into a train line ; CGFC being later taken over by FSB and FCC, followed by the broad gauge Lleida – La Pobla de Segur line in 1951 and operated by RENFE until it was transferred to FGC in 2005-2010.

It has three railway stations-one on the RENFE line from Manresa to Sant Vicenç de Calders ( via Barcelona and Vilafranca del Penedès ) called " Martorell ", and three on the FGC line from Barcelona to Manresa called " Martorell-Vila ", " Martorell-Enllaç " and " Martorell-Central ".

The first, operated by RENFE, connects with Barcelona and Lleida, and the second, operated by FGC, with Barcelona.

In some cities, RENFE shares the market with other commuter railway operators, such as FGC in Barcelona.

Its oldest line, the standard gauge Línia Barcelona-Vallès however dates back to 1863 which was built and operated by Companyia del Ferrocarril de Barcelona a Sarrià from 1863 until 1874, and Ferrocarril de Sarrià a Barcelona ( FSB ) ( with Ferrocarrils de Catalunya ( FCC )) from 1874 until financial difficulties forced FSB and FCC to be acquired by FEVE in 1977, which operated it until FGC took over the line in 1979.

FGC operates some of the Barcelona commuter rail network.

Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (, " Catalan Government Railways "), or FGC, is a railway company which operates several unconnected lines in Catalonia, Spain.

They include of 600mm gauge route, of metre gauge route, of standard gauge route, and of broad gauge route, making the FGC one of the few railway companies to operate on four different gauges.

Whilst most lines are conventional adhesion railways, the FGC also operates two rack railways and four funicular railways.

On March 3, 2008, twenty-two cars of a sixty-three unit Union Pacific freight train running between Colton and El Centro derailed near Mecca, causing a long-term evacuation of forty homes and precipitating the long-term closure of both the railroad and State Route 111 due to the leakage of both hydrochloric acid and phosphoric acid.
