Known formerly as the Bangladesh Rehabilitation Assistance Committee and then as the Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee ( currently, BRAC does not represent an acronym ), BRAC was initiated in 1972 by Sir Fazle Hasan Abed at Sulla in the district of Sylhet as a small-scale relief and rehabilitation project to help returning war refugees after the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971.

The former Chief of Army Staff & President, Hussain Muhammad Ershad is currently a Member of Parliament & Chairman of Jatiya Party-the second largest party in Bangladesh's Coalition Government known as Grand Alliance ( Mohajote ) as of January 2009.

Rice, prominent civil rights activist and co-founder of the Advancement Project ; Rashad Hussain, Deputy Associate Council to President Barack Obama, and the U. S. representative to the Organisation of the Islamic Conference ; and Jocelyn F. Benson, an Assistant Professor of Law at Wayne State University Law School and the 2010 Democratic candidate for Michigan Secretary of State.

A tomb of Pir Syed Said Ali Shah. Professor Syed Bashir Hussain Jaffri, Colonel Syed Saadat Hssain, Professor Syed Shoukat Hussain Jaffri hail from this religious family.

His father, Ghulam Hussain, was a Professor of Economics at the College as well as being president of the College's cricket club.

Hailing from the business-industrialist family from the Punjab Province of Pakistan, Hussain educated and graduated from the FC College University and the Punjab University.

The first political organization of Muhajirs, called All Pakistan Muhajir Student Organization ( APMSO ), was founded on 11 June 1978 by Altaf Hussain in Karachi University.

While attending Karachi University, on 11 June 1978, Hussain founded the “ All Pakistan Mohajir Student Organization ” APMSO.

Before creating the APMSO, Hussain served as General Secretary and later as President of the National Student ’ s Action Committee at Karachi University.

Purnima Sen ( disciple of Ustad Sharafat Hussain Khan ), Dr. Tapasi Ghosh ( Calcutta University, disciple of Pandit D. T. Joshi ), and Waseem Ahmed Khan ( SRA Scholar and family member of Agra Gharana, being the grandson of Ustad Ata Hussain Khan ).

He was educated at Forest School, Walthamstow and Durham University, as was fellow cricketer Nasser Hussain, subsequently Foster's captain at Essex and for England.
