Kröller-Müller also collected works by other modern artists, such as paintings and works on paper by Picasso, Fernand Léger, Diego Rivera, George Seurat, Juan Gris, and Piet Mondrian.

In 1906 he moved to Paris and became friends with Henri Matisse, Georges Braque, Fernand Léger, then in 1915 he was painted by his friend, Amedeo Modigliani.

Cubism is an early-20th-century avant-garde art movement pioneered by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, and later joined by Juan Gris, Jean Metzinger, Albert Gleizes, Robert Delaunay, Henri Le Fauconnier, and Fernand Léger, that revolutionized European painting and sculpture, and inspired related movements in music, literature and architecture.

The first organized group exhibition by Cubists took place at the Salon des Indépendants in Paris during the spring of 1911 in a room called ‘ Salle 41 ’; it included works by Jean Metzinger, Albert Gleizes, Fernand Léger, Robert Delaunay and Henri Le Fauconnier, yet no works by Picasso and Braque were exhibited.

While living in New York, Richter directed two feature films, Dreams That Money Can Buy ( 1947 ) and 8 x 8: A Chess Sonata in 8 Movements ( 1957 ) in collaboration with Max Ernst, Jean Cocteau, Paul Bowles, Fernand Léger, Alexander Calder, Marcel Duchamp, and others, which was partially filmed on the lawn of his summer house in Southbury, Connecticut.

When he arrived there, knowing nobody, he met Amedeo Modigliani, Pascin, Chaim Soutine, and Fernand Léger and became friends with Juan Gris, Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse.

He therefore developed friendships with Guillaume Apollinaire and other avant-garde luminaries such as Robert Delaunay and Fernand Léger.

Heavily influenced by George Grosz, Félix Vallotton, Fernand Léger, Eric Gill and, most of all, the narrative woodcuts of Frans Masereel, Harper's style evolved in the 1980s in a bolder, expressionist direction, with much of his later work resembling woodcut, although he mainly works in pen and ink, and watercolour.

Kahnweiler supported in his gallery all of his great artists of the time ; who had no audience, or collectors ,-initial purchases included works by Kees Van Dongen, André Derain, Fernand Léger, Georges Braque, Juan Gris, Maurice de Vlaminck and several others of the same generation.

Before long the walls of Marie Vassilieff's atelier held a collection of paintings by Marc Chagall and Modigliani, drawings by Picasso and Fernand Léger, and in a corner, sat a sculpture by Zadkine.

By 1913, her studio was so widely known that Fernand Léger gave two lectures there on the topic of Modern art.
