Filbert Bayi ( born June 23, 1953 ) is a former Tanzanian middle-distance runner of the 1970s who set the world records for 1500 metres in 1974 and the mile in 1975.

After retirement Bayi has spent much effort in setting up the Filbert Bayi Foundation which aims to guide young sporting talent in Tanzania.

The term " Dream Mile " is also used to describe several other major athletics events, notably the 1974 Commonwealth Games 1500 metres race (" metric mile ") fought out between Filbert Bayi and John Walker in Christchurch, New Zealand.

In 1975 he ran a personal best 3: 52. 2 in the mile, finishing second to Filbert Bayi ( who broke Ryun's world record in that race by 0. 1 second with a 3: 51. 0 ), and set a United States record of 8: 17. 12 in the 2 mile.

On 16 April 1963, an astonishing game at Filbert Street against Manchester United, which saw both Ken Keyworth and Denis Law score a hat-trick each, ended in a 4 – 3 victory for Leicester, which meant Leicester sat top of the First Division and 11 days later Banks put in one of the performances of his career to keep out Liverpool as Leicester beat them 1 – 0 in the FA Cup semi-final despite being completely outplayed all game.

He won one cap for the side during a friendly against Mexico U-21's at Filbert Street, scoring during the match with a spectacular overhead kick as England won 3 – 0.

Although Leicester were ultimately relegated with a mere five league wins all season, Piper made his mark in the club's history by scoring the last ever competitive goal at Filbert Street against Tottenham Hotspur as Leicester won 2-1.

By this stage, however, he was attracting the attention of bigger clubs, and a move from Filbert Street was looking certain.

Early in the season away to Leicester City at Filbert Street on 23 August 1997, Bergkamp scored his first hat-trick for the club.

The Common Hazel ( Corylus avellana ) and the Filbert ( Corylus maxima ) are important orchard plants, grown for their edible nuts.

At this preliminary gathering, held in Donaldson Hall on the corner of Broad and Filbert Streets, the K of L was charged with conspiring with anti-union bosses to provide labor at below going union rates and with making use of individuals who had crossed picket lines or defaulted on payment of union dues.

Striker Roy Essandoh headed an injury-time winner to seal a 2 – 1 win at Filbert Street.

Bayi won a silver medal in the 3000 m steeplechase at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow.

They were runners-up the first two years, but won the CBA championship for the first time on their third try, snapping a string of six Bayi Rockets championships in a row.

In recent years, however, other CBA teams have become more competitive, and Bayi has won only one championship in the last four seasons ( as of the end of the 2004 – 2005 season ).

The Tigers have won seven CBA titles ( champions of the finals ), behind only the Bayi Rockets ' eight titles.

At Bayi he would have a successful career where he won several league titles, however despite these trophies he never received an international call-up and unfortunately had to retire early due to injury.

Pei became a coach of the youth team in the Bayi Football Team in 1983 and won his first title in a national youth league in 1985.
