Finkelstein examines and scrutinizes popular historical versions of the conflict by Joan Peters, Benny Morris, Anita Shapira and Abba Eban.

The next elections ( 1922 ) were rigged against the Polish and Jewish minorities, but the Seimas was dissolved and another Folkist, the lawyer Oizer Finkelstein ( also spelled Euser ), was elected in 1923 on a national minorities bloc.

According to Finkelstein, this " Holocaust industry " has corrupted Jewish culture and the authentic memory of the Holocaust.

* Chapter 3: The Double Shakedown-in this chapter, Finkelstein claims that the number of Jewish survivors of the Holocaust recognized by relief groups increased from c. 100, 000 in 1945 to nearly 1 million owing to definitional changes in who was considered to be a survivor.

Finkelstein scathingly compared the media treatment of the Holocaust and the media treatment of other genocides such as the Holodomor and the Armenian Genocide, particularly by members of what he calls " The Holocaust Industry ".

According to Finkelstein, Elie Wiesel characterizes any suggestion that he has profited from the " Holocaust Industry ", or even any criticism at all, as Holocaust denial.

According to Finkelstein, Deborah Lipstadt claims there is widespread Holocaust denial-yet in " Denying the Holocaust " her prime example is Arthur Butz, author of The Hoax of the Twentieth Century.

It is filled with precisely the kind of shrill hyperbole that Finkelstein rightly deplores in much of the current media hype over the Holocaust ; it is brimming with the same indifference to historical facts, inner contradictions, strident politics and dubious contextualizations ; and it oozes with the same smug sense of moral and intellectual superiority.

Finkelstein can now be said to have founded a Holocaust industry of his own.

University of Chicago Professor Peter Novick, whose work Finkelstein described as providing the " initial stimulus " for The Holocaust Industry, asserted in the July 28, 2000 Jewish Chronicle ( London ) that the book is replete with " false accusations ", " egregious misrepresentations ", " absurd claims " and " repeated mis-statements " (" A charge into darkness that sheds no light ").

Hasia Diner has accused Peter Novick and Finkelstein of being " harsh critics of American Jewry from the left ," and challenges the notion reflected in their books that American Jews did not begin to commemorate the Holocaust until post 1967.

Norman Finkelstein, former professor of political science at DePaul University, wrote in The Holocaust Industry: " Long after Kosiński was exposed as a consummate literary hoaxer, Wiesel continued to heap encomiums on his " remarkable body of work.

A strong supporter of Norman Finkelstein during the latter's controversial tenure battle and of Finkelstein's The Holocaust Industry, Hilberg also made a posthumous appearance in the 2009 film, American Radical: The Trials of Norman Finkelstein.

Finkelstein has published heavy criticisms of several books in his career, as he did to Hitler's Willing Executioners by Daniel Johnah Goldhagen, which he calls " replete with gross misinterpretations of source material and internal contradictions ", and says " the book is devoid of scholarly value ".

In a reply to Finkelstein and Masalha, Morris answers he " saw enough material, military and civilian, to obtain an accurate picture of what happened ", that Finkelstein and Masalha draw their conclusions with a pro-Palestinian bias, and that with regard to the distinction between military assault and expulsion they should accept that he uses a " more narrow and severe " definition of expulsions.

The Times columnist Daniel Finkelstein has condemned those who attempt to belittle Cameron by calling him ' Dave '.

Daniel Finkelstein has said of the period leading up to Cameron's election as leader of the Conservative party that " a small group of us ( myself, David Cameron, George Osborne, Michael Gove, Nick Boles, Nick Herbert I think, once or twice ) used to meet up in the offices of Policy Exchange, eat pizza, and consider the future of the Conservative Party ".

Founded in 1989, the organisation was cited as ‘ John Major's favourite thinktank ’ and two former directors ( Rick Nye and Daniel Finkelstein ) left to work for the Conservative Party.

However, Kershaw later went on to recommend Norman Finkelstein and Ruth Bettina Birn's extremely critical assessment of Goldhagen's book, A Nation on Trial: The Goldhagen Thesis and Historical Truth ; stating that " Finkelstein and Birn provide a devastating critique of Daniel Goldhagen's simplistic and misleading interpretation of the Holocaust.

Though Kershaw had little positive to say about Goldhagen, he wrote that he felt that Norman Finkelstein attack on Goldhagen had been over-the-top and did little to help historical understanding.
