Significant post-retirement activities of earlier Governors-General have included: Lord Tennyson was appointed Deputy Governor of the Isle of Wight ; Sir Ronald Munro Ferguson ( by now Lord Novar ) became Secretary of State for Scotland ; and Lord Gowrie became Chairman of the Marylebone Cricket Club ( Lord Forster had also held this post, before his appointment as Governor-General ).

Though unaware of the British intention to settle Norfolk Island, which was not announced until 5 December 1786, Forster referred to “ the nearness of New Zealand ; the excellent flax plant ( Phormium ) that grows so abundantly there ; its incomparable shipbuilding timber ”, as among the advantages of the new colony.

On 2 May 1882, Gladstone announced that the government intended to release Parnell and his fellow-prisoners in Kilmainham, and that both Lord Cowper-Temple and Forster had in consequence resigned ; on the following Saturday, Forster's successor, Lord Frederick Cavendish, was murdered in Phoenix Park, Dublin.

Aldini's most famous public demonstrations of the electro-stimulation technique of deceased limbs was performed on the executed criminal George Forster at Newgate in London in 1803.

While it is true that Aldini did do these attempts at human reanimation during the same time of Shelley's writings, and Forster execution was a sensational notice in the public venue, there is no specific reference that Shelley did actually adapt Aldini into her works despite obviously being aware of Aldini's experiments which were done in public at the Royal College of Physicians in 1803.

George Forster, who had been on Cook ’ s second voyage to the Pacific and had been with him when he landed on Norfolk Island, was at the time professor of natural history at the University of Vilna ( or Vilnius ) in Polish Lithuania: Forster discussed the proposed Botany Bay colony in an article written in November 1786, “ Neuholland, und die brittische Colonie in Botany Bay ”.

As a result of the report Forster was admitted to the Royal Society at the early age of twenty-two and came to be considered one of the founders of modern scientific travel literature.

However, by 1783 Forster saw that his involvement with the Rosicrucians not only led him away from real science, but also deeper into debt ( it is said he was not good at money ); for these reason Forster was happy to accept a proposal by the Polish Komisja Edukacji Narodowej ( Commission of National Education ) and became Chair of Natural History at Vilnius University in 1784.

Forster belongs, for example, to the first writers who gave just treatment to the Gothic architecture of Cologne Cathedral, which was widely perceived as " barbarian " at that time.

Yet before the reign of terror reached its climax, Georg Forster died of a stroke after a rheumatic illness in his small attic apartment at Rue des Moulins in Paris in January 1794, at the age of thirty-nine.

Stanley's graffiti at Persepolis, IranIn 1867, Stanley was recruited by Colonel Samuel Forster Tappan ( a one-time journalist ) of the Indian Peace Commission, to serve as a correspondent to cover the work of the Commission for several newspapers.

Forster was born into an Anglo-Irish and Welsh middle-class family at 6 Melcombe Place, Dorset Square, London NW1, in a building that no longer exists.

His name was officially registered as Henry Morgan Forster, but at his baptism he was accidentally named Edward Morgan Forster.

From 1925 until his mother's death at age 90 on 11 March 1945, Forster lived with her at West Hackhurst, Abinger Hammer, finally leaving on or around 23 September 1946.

Since the number of supposedly ethnic Germans who signed up voluntarily was insignificant by 1942, in February of that year Forster made signing of the Volksliste mandatory and empowered local police and other authorities to employ various methods, including physical force and threats, to implement the decree.

Before World War II Forster had tried and failed to gain control over the organisation of the irredentist activities of the minority ethnic German population in the Polish Corridor, neighboring Freie Stadt Danzig, which was created in 1920 by Treaty of Versailles ), rather it was the SS-dominated Volksdeutsche Mittelstelle that won control.

With Forster and Himmler engaged in a power struggle, this rendered the ( ethnic ) Germans concerned suspicious of Forster.

Forster was responsible for ethnic cleansing of Poles to the General Government, as well as sending them to the Stutthof concentration camp.

For example, Albert Forster, Gauleiter of Danzig-West Prussia ( the other German-annexed section of occupied Poland ), simply declared all Poles in his area who were reasonably proficient in German to be Germans ( although he was guilty of the elimination of the Jewish population under his jurisdiction either by murder or deportation ).

Forster was willing to accept any and all Poles who claimed to have " German blood " as Germans.

Both Greiser and Himmler complained to Hitler that Forster was allowing thousands of Poles to be classified as Germans, but Hitler merely bounced the problem back to them, telling them to go sort out their problems with Forster on their own.

Forster gave remaining Poles two alternatives — to become Germanised or be slaves.
